Merlin jotted down the Chase's name when it was given to him, adding underneath 'elemental magic'. There hadn't been much training in the elemental division recently, and he hoped that this headstrong boy would change that- he seemed eager to progress to the level of Mage.
"Wine?" Merlin repeated, his eyes scanning around the office briefly as if to look for the barrels, "In all honesty, I suspect that has already gone to the King. The palace is the place of feasting and making merry, the Guild is a place of study and magical enhancement... although the elders are partial to a class of sherry." He studied the young boy's face as he spoke, then continued to ask: "You say you already have some manipulation over wind, would you be able to demonstrate anything here, on demand?"
He knew it was difficult to conjure up elemental magic on demand in newer magicians, as their magic was closely connected to heightened emotions. Still, he would see how the boy responded to his request.

Chase stood there waiting as the man wrote something on his paper. The man continued saying that chances were the wine had already gone to the king. Chase scoffed at this, sure his dad was useless but he did make sure that his deliveries went to the right place. Chances were sometime tomorrow a cart loaded with caskets would show up in front of the guild ready to be unloaded. However it wasn't his problem if they had to deal with it.
Then the moment Chase had been waiting for arrived. The man asked for a demonstration of his magic. He calmed himself down for a moment. Stretching out his hand he murmured the words that seemed to come to him when performing magic.
"Chwini vaiva, súl S gwae, gwai, thúl"
A small whirlwind appeared in the palm of his outstretched hand. He grinned to himself trying to make it larger. Once it reached around a foot in height however the magic got away from him and it collapsed. "And that is why I need training" He hoped that just because he hadn't been able to sustain it they wouldn't deny him entrance.

Merlin was impressed that the boy was able to perform his magic on demand. Chase had a good control over the whirlwind he created and Merlin could see all the boy needed was direction and training to increase his magical stamina. "Well done." Merlin said simply, signing his name on the bottom of Chase's form which he then proceeded to hand to the boy. "You can start your training as soon as possible, you won't train with me for a while yet, but if you need any help you can usually find me around the Guild or the castle."
There was a swift rap at the door which swung open before either could speak. One of the Guild Elders strode in, a flurry of paperwork seemingly hovering behind him, which flew through the doorway and piled itself neatly on the desk. The older magicians tended to use magic to help themselves in everyday life, and so inside the Guild sights like this were a regular occurrence.
"Sorry to disturb, Merlin. I'm here to take over the morning's recruits." The old man peered at the two boys over his long narrow nose looking anything but sorry. "That's alright," Merlin replied, standing, "We were just finishing up anyway and I have chores at the castle." He nodded to the old man as he walked passed him, and added, "Good luck Chase." acknowledging the boy before exiting the room.

Chase sat stunned at the events that had unfolded before him. First he had been accepted and then it turned out the youth he had been talking to had been the fabled Merlin. Chase couldn't believe that he was so young. So genius's like that existed in the world.
Chase left the room wondering at it. He was glad he had chosen to join the guild. It was obvious that here was were the power was. Someday he would become just as renowned as Merlin. They would go down in history as the strongest mages of the world had ever seen. For now however Chase needed to train. He would surpass any who thought they were better then him.

Knocking on the door, Veredus waited for someone to come and open the door. When no one opened the door after a few minutes she knocked louder, wondering if the door was perhaps thicker than she had thought or maybe there was a different way to enter the Guild. After ten minutes of waiting and repeatedly knocking on the door, Veredus felt irratation joining her apprehension. Why was no one answering the door? Was the door, perhaps some kind of test? That was highly unlikely, Veredus decided. She had been watching the Guild entrance for the last few days since she had arrived in Camelot to try and figure out whether it really wasn't a trap set up by King Uther. She had heard about his hatred of magic and she couldn't believe he had changed his mind enough to allow actual magic to be practiced right in his castle. Seeing all the people going in and out, and they were the same people who went in, she felt certain now that there was truth to the rumour she had followed across the continent.
Having now stood outside the door to the Magicians' Guild for almost a quarter of an hour with no sign of acknowledgement, Veredus decided to open the door herself. Looking around discreetly for anyone watching her, Veredus deemed it safe and let her hand slip through her cloak and rest on the wooden door. Patefacio ianua she thought. When the door resisted, she added, placeo si libet and the door relented, swinging open quietly. Pleased with herself, Veredus strolled in, closing the door behind her gently with a silent Gratias. Walking down the hall, she found the door she needed and stopped, knocking firmly and resigning herself to waiting.

Enide was told this was the place she had to go to and so she silently followed the instructions on a piece of parchment making sure not to grab anyone’s attention. Magic was limitedly allowed and so Uther couldn’t find out so many persons possessed the gift, and so slowly she got to know things about Camelot and the lands of this kingdom. Though alien to her own culture and traditions now that she was no longer who she was, she deemed it prudent to learn the rules and canons of this realm.
She sighed, had she done the right thing by simply leaving home the moment all doors seemed to close? Would her parents ever forgive her? Perhaps after some time she would have to contact them again and see what would happen, she had to make sure the enemy did not know, however, or else all this hard work and getting used to would be forfeit and obsolete.
The moment she reached the door she looked up at the sky, smiling to herself at the sight of Dyrn, her silver falcon, perched upon the nearest tree, away form peering eyes yet after all this time she could find his blazing red eyes anywhere, even amidst camouflage. She watched as a lady came inside and only deemed it prudent to knock on the door and wait patiently. And so she did.

[Enide/ Maelanthes: I thought I'd enroll you via forms seeing as you've waited long enough and it'll be quicker as you've already started your training PM if you want your member group switched over.] Merlin had left the Guild to attend to his duties at the castle. The Guild elder who replaced him was anything but enthusiastic. He huffed and puffed as he shuffled the papers around on the desk, then looked up, irritated, when there were two separate knocks on the door. Muttering complaints under his breath at Merlin's perfect timing for leaving, he croaked louder: "Come in!" to the two girls waiting outside. "Fill out these forms." he directed, barely looking at the women who had entered, and handed out two identical sheets of parchment and quills which read as followed: Name: Age: Band of Magic applying for: Explanation: [History of your magic, potency, forms it has manifested itself in etc.]

Veredus had just glanced at the other girl who had joined her in waiting when a croaked "come in" penetrated the door. Still slightly annoyed at having to open the door to the Guild building when there was someone here, Veredus pushed open the door and stepped inside. Tempted to be more annoyed as the old man demonstrated his lack of courtesy, Veredus decided that it was too much effort if the man was constantly rude and discarded the slight emotion. Moving towards the desk Veredus took the form and quickly filled it out.
Name: Maelanthes 'Veredus' Tyrell Age: 17 Band of Magic applying for: Elemental Explanation: Elemental magic works differently than normal. Have to garner favour with the elements themselves, through doing things for them, in order to ask of them bigger requests. So far most in favour of Water, then Earth. Haven't had much use for Wind/Fire so don't have a strong rapport with them.
Earth element: Can communicate with animals and animals mostly like me. Have a basic understanding of what plants are useful but can ask for more knowledge from nature itself. Heal faster and regain energy quicker when surrounded by nature. Water element: Can feel the presence of water - found water during a drought when 5 years old (was desperate to save wild horse herd and family). Drawn to water and around bodies of water, feels at peace. Sister almost drowned when 10 but made the lake freeze over and sister appeared on top of the ice. Can draw water from the air. Heal faster and regain energy quicker when nearby or within natural water sources.
Wind/Fire: Can summon small flames to make fires and slightly alter the temperature of air within a small distance.

Enide would have scorned the man, had she not suddenly remembered she was a Castle maid now, so she would have to be quiet and rather submissive, if she spoke her mind her true nature could betray her and then she would be sent back to the kingdom she came from to answer to her father for being so bold as to run away. So she took a deep breath and silently smiled at the girl standing next to her and once the girl entered she followed closely behind. She closed the door behind her and then sat on the unoccupied chair so that she could write more easily and take her time with thinking.
It was then when she reached out for the form the grumpy and bitter man handed them both and began scribbling as she read on the requested fields, before handing it back to the man:
Name: Enide Coedwallider
Age: 17
Band of Magic applying for: White
Explanation:
SPEED:: The ability to move quickly and undetected slowing time somehow. This was the last trait I developed realizing that, as I read on the kinds of magic, it was one of the most common manifestations of white magic. The ability awakened one day when I confronted grave danger in my homelands and had to run away, somehow the villain stood there frozen, as if it had all come to a stop while I could not understand it for I was running away at that time.
HEAL:: This ability is not limited but to the dead, however, it is still possible to heal from the smallest of scratches to reviving someone in the greatest and alarming of agonies. I have had this ability ever since I can remember however little did I expect it to be related to magic. Though ‘speed’ is quite a strong ability I believe ‘healing’ is the most potent energy that emanates from my body.
CREATOR:: Lastly, I have knowledge on what I recently developed, though not my strongest power, I still believe I have been able to bring life to inanimate objects, somehow. This has happened a couple of times, one of them related to protecting myself from a thief when coming back from the market, The attacker had a knife in hand and all I could think of was how I wished that the rope right next to the man would turn into a snake, which did somehow. It did not turn into a snake but it acted like one and it rolled around his legs and that way I could escape such overwhelming fate.

Post by Branowen O'Floinn on Jul 29, 2010 14:19:16 GMT
The hallway was deserted, excusing some of the palace staff and two noblemen that the woman had passed a while ago. She couldn't help but think that the hall seemed kind of lonely when deprived of people and the stone walls all that more ominous, though this did not deter her or her optimistic attitude for more than a second. The red haired adult happily trotted down the hall with a pleasant smile on her face and a very obvious bounce in her step. Over the few years she'd spent in Camelot she had become immune to the strange stares she would get from the villagers. People seemed to find her odd because of her unusual red hair and her severely optimistic attitude. The hair was something she was born with and ran in her family. The family had come to think of it as the O'Floinn family curse, forever doomed to be carrot tops. Maybe if someone altering someone's hair colour with magic would change it. The red haired girl's thoughts wondered to who would look good with a different hair color. Conall would look good with black hair, it would suit his personality. Mama and Father would look good with brown hair, I could see them with brown hair…
Branowen's mind had wondered, something she was known for was her over active imagination, but she reined it in when the door to the Magician's Guild came into view. It didn't look as ominous or magical as she though it might. She'd imagined it as a dark door with magical floating fires that lit up the hallway. Possible a few magic symbols on the door or the floor. She expected the door to open when she stood in front of it and an ominous voice of an old man to call out for her to enter…
…It was needless to say that none of this happened. It was just a door, a mundane run-of-the-mill door. There were hundreds in the castle that looked exactly the same. The only thing really different about it was that it lead into the Magician's guild. Branowen was slightly let down but didn't let it affect her for longer then a second.
Halting in front of the door greyish hazel eyes studied it, in some faint hope that it might to something like her imagination had though of. Letting a light sigh the red head girl took to making sure she was presentable. She ran her fingers through her hair making sure her usually wild hair was tamed even if only temporarily. She brushed imaginary dust off her red dress, straightened the fabric, and adjusted her embroidered wrap. She wanted to make a good first impression on her guild master, like anyone would. Well, future guild master if all depended on if she was accepted into the guild.
Deeming herself presentable and thus read to face her fate, she reached up and lightly knocked on the door before taking a step. She waited with a pleasant smile on her face for the door to open and hummed a light tune.

Merlin sat behind his usual desk in the enrolment office. He had been cleaning a pair of Arthur's boots magically, his own feet crossed over the table as he leaned precariously back on two legs of the chair dozing. A knock sounded at the door and Merlin jumped, the polish brush clattering to the floor.
Whilst he knew Arthur wouldn't bother coming to the Guild to check on him, Merlin still eyed the door warily and kicked the brush under the table in one swift shifty motion all the same. "Come in." he called, and with barely a whisper, he opened the doors with magic. They creaked apart slowly to reveal a slim, pale redhead girl who stood demurely outside. Merlin couldn't help but smile at her. He had never met anyone with hair her colour before. He liked it.
"I'm Merlin. What can I do for you miss?" He introduced himself with a boyish smile, his tone of voice very polite despite his high position in the Guild. A side effect of working as a servant at the castle, where everyone is your better.

It wasn't hard to guess that when the door opened Branowen's excitement level rose. Though she'd previously been disappointed by the back of magical-ness about the door when it opened without someone appearing immediately on the other side she clapped happily and gave an excited smile. Stepping though the threshold she immediately spotted a boy who looked about her age and this caused her to pause.
Did she have the wrong room? Surely the head of the guild was an old wizard with a long beard and a clock. This was a boy who did not appear like he would stand out from any of the other people in Camelot. He looked so normal, not that she was really let down by that fact. It was actually a welcome disappointment as she felt more comfortable around someone who looked virtually harmless.
Deciding that she was in the right room and she would just have to accept that this could quite possibly be the head of the guild she continued until she was standing a few feet away form his desk. He introduced himself with a boyish smile and she nodded to him her smile growing as she did so. "It's nice to meet you Merlin, My name is Branowen O'Floinn, or any variation of my name that you like! I was wondering if I could inquire about joining the Magicians guild?" She gave a hopeful smile with her overly optimistic attitude already evident and curtsied, though inside her stomach was turning. She was nervous but with a quick sigh she managed to calm herself before she over reacted to something.
Wondering where to go from there she paused before continuing. "I guess I should give you a demonstration?" With a hopeful smile she looked around the room trying to find something small enough to demonstrate with. Her eyes landed on a quill that was on his desk and she decided to use that for her magic demonstration. "I will now move the quill on your desk." She announced like it was some big spectacle before adding, "Though you may have to look closely to see it." She gave another bright smile before stepping close to the desk and the item she planned to use in her demonstration.
She forced her attention to focused on the quill and only the quill, something that was very hard for Branowen to do with so many other interesting things in the room. Then it came, the familiar drumming and pulsing in the back of her head. A small part of her mind springing to life as it was getting called to use, the magic that rested in her mind working its way to the object. In her mind Branowen could almost see it, she imagined little wisps of her magic slipping though the air to poke at the quill.
On the desk the quill wobbled, it slid slightly from its place moving no more then a few millimetres form its original position.
She tried to force the magic to do something more. To pick up the quill and actually move it but her focus slipped and it was broken. The magic wisp disappeared from her mind and the quill stopped moving. The vibrant haired woman sighed as it had not been a very good demonstration. Sometimes she could move quills a few inches or like today she could only move them a few millimetres if that.
Finicky thing magic is.
Holding her hands out like it was a big show she smiled, "Ta-da! It's not much of a demonstration I know, but everyone needs a starting point. Mine just happens to be… that." Her smile and bright as she ran a hand though her hair and tugged loosely at the vibrant red strands, a nervous habit she'd picked up from her mother.
Their was a faint drumming in the back of her mind, the magical part of her mind slipping back into dormancy until it was next called upon for use. It left a very fair throbbing in her head as it did so, though Branowen suspected that the headaches could either get worse or better with more use of her psychic magic.
Word Count: 699 Notes:…yes, totally had a lot of muse for the moving of a quill. Probably more then necessary.

Merlin watched with a smile as the girl clapped her hands together, walked into the room and introduced herself. Her attitude was so upbeat it was like a breath of fresh air through the musty office.
"Of course, pleased to meet you." Merlin replied before Branowen spoke again. He looked at the girl, wondering what sort of magic she would possess; it would be useful to have a sense for these things, but newcomers to the Guild often took him by surprise. I'd guess elementalist, Merlin mused to himself, Fire, maybe. Perhaps he was drawing conclusions from the flame-headed woman infront of him by appearence alone.
This proved to be true as Branowen began her demonstration. Merlin pushed his chair back as the quill wobbled, threatening movement. Beginner's magic was often unreliable, and he didn't want to quill to fly into him like an arrow. Luckily, it did nothing more than nudge it's way along the desk.
"Ta-da!It's not much of a demonstration I know, but everyone needs a starting point. Mine just happens to be… that."
Merlin couldn't help but chuckle at Branowen's Ta-da! gesture. He checked himself quickly though, in case she thought he was being rude and laughing at her display of magic. The tips of his rather prominent ears turned a faint red colour. Merlin cleared his throat, and picked up the quill that had been moving just seconds before.
"Psychic magic." Merlin stated, writing the words as he spoke them. "Telekinesis gets easier with practise. You'll find this sort of magic is no different from physical excercise. You'll be able to lift heavier things for longer the more you train. I look forward to watching you." He looked up from the parchment to Branowen's face, "Improve, that is... In training." he added quickly, smiling after a moment at his own awkwardness, and scratching the quill on the back of his head.
"What I mean to say is, welcome to the Guild." Merlin may have been head of the largest magical institution Albion had seen, but at heart; he was still an awkward teenage boy.

If you happened to look down the hallway where the entrance to the wizards guild was, you would see Adela May passing back and forth. For nearly ten minutes Adela reached towards the door, but then would take her hand away. "What if he thought my magic wasn't good enough. What If he tells me to leave, I need training I know that but what if my powers weren't good enough even to train. What would I tell my father. What if Merlin tells my father I am here, Father would be very angry. I don't know what to do"[/u] After a long time of that Adela decided to go into the door, between herself and the wizards guild. Adela found herself in a small room with a very interesting collection of many things that looked, well, magical. Inside there was a small table with a young man there that looked about 20. He had ruffled black hair, pale skin and blue eyes. "Um, hi. I am Aleda May of Leasdona. It is a small kingdom, not many people herd of it."[/u] Adela felt herself rambling on again. "I am here to join the wizards guild, well you would know that considering that I am here, okay so my name is Adela May, I said that already. I am looking to train in Elemental magic, Wind to be exact, but I would also like to train in fire."[/u] Why was I so worried. I will be find. Adela thought to herself. Adela watched the young man write down what she had said. Carefully examining his every move. She waited for his response...

Merlin looked up as a young girl entered. He thought he had heard faint voices the other side of the door, but had assumed it was one of the Guild elders. He could tell that she was nervous from the quick way she spoke, but he wrote down her application before replying to her.
"Nice to meet you Adela. I'm Merlin." he gave her a warm smile which he hoped would put her at ease. He knew how it felt to be out of your depth, Merlin often felt that way when he was present at court event. "Would you be able to give me a small demonstration of your magic? I don't expect anything massive, as I understand that you're a beginner, but I need to be sure you have a natural gift."
This part was always the most awkward; it was sometimes difficult for new mages to perform on demand as their magic was closely tied to their emotion, especially elemental mages.
