Arthur stood as the guard introduced Anna and he smiled back. She seemed a little nervous about being here, but that wasn't surprising- she was dining with the royal family.
Once the king had taken his seat Arthur did likewise and they all soon began to chat. "So Annabell" Uther began, "How was your journey to Camelot? I trust that you brought guards from your old kingdom to protect you on your way?" As Uther questioned her, the servants brought the first course into the dining room. It was a vegetable soup.
Arthur tucked in straight away content to listen to his father questioning their guest. He was happily slurping away when he received a sharp look from Uther. He rolled his eyes but sat up straight and ropped his spoon, sending splashes onto the table.
"Do you ride Annabell?" He smiled again, ignoring the look on his fathers face which implied he wasn't particuarly impressed with his sons table manners.

Arthur sat down beside his father, King Uther Pendragon, who was sitting in his throne at the head of the table. Opposite him, on the other side of his father, a place was set for their guest, Annabell Glenn.
He was looking forward to the meal and to getting to know Anna. It had been a while since he had had the pleasure of entertaining anyone in the castle, and now he knes that Anna wasn't a suitor, he didnt need to impress her and he was much more at ease.
Somewhere a clock chimed, letting Arthur know that it was 1 o'clock and he smiled knowing that a guard would show Anna in any moment. "Father, I do hope you will refrain from discussing such topics as the army this afternoon, I am sure Lady Annabell will not be interested in such things." Uther smiled at him and replied calmy "Of course Arthur, I am no fool. But try not to embarrass yourself." Arthur rolled his eyes as a guard entered the room. "Lady Annabell sires."

Arthur nodded as he listened to the sad story the girl told. His father was usually cold hearted and ruthless but perhaps he had a softer side too.
"Well Anna, I hope you enjoy your stay here and that you are made to feel welcome." He smiled, "If you have any problems do come see me and...er...would you like to join my father and I for dinner tomorrow?" He felt more at ease now that he knew she wasnt one of his fathers handpicked noble ladies and he actually managed to keep his balance and poise.
"We will dine at 1 in the castel dining room. I shall inform Uther and I am sure he will be pleased to have you" With that, Arthur excused himself and went back to tell Uther about his plans.

Arthur frowned. Of course he knew he was the prince, what was she trying to suggest here? He stood up straight and righted his ruffled tunic.
"A pleasure to meet you" Arthur couldnt stay angry at a smile. It still wasnt clear whether she was a suitor though. "So what brings you to the castle?" He asked carefully, not wanting to ask a direct question and put his foot in it already (it would definitely happen at some point soon). King Uther Pendragon was very picky about who he let stay in the castle, and if they weren't of high enough class or if he didnt like the person very much, they definitely wouldnt be allowed.
He tried to look casual as he waited for her reply and he leant one hand against the wall and crossed his legs. A precarious position for a clumsy prince.

Arthur laughed at the thought of Merlin somehow casting a misguided spell on an innocent girl, it would be typical. Still it probably wouldn't be any worse than what Arthur often managed to do. One time he had actually knocked a possible suitor into the river Kinver, needless to say neither she or her father were very impressed, and King Uther hadn't found it too amusing either.
He laughed again as he saw Merlins dancing eyebrows and then he stood up from his chair. It was dark outside now and he wanted to go and speak with Uther about the possible joust coming up. "Shall we meet tomorrow Merlin?" The prince asked hopefully. His princely duties got boring very quickly and he was hoping to sneak off for a drink or two later on. "Well I best be off, you know where to find me if you need to!" He smiled warmly and bid his friend goodbye before heading through to his fathers chambers.

Arthur had been talking to his father for the last hour or so and if he was honest he couldnt wait to get away. As he left King Uthers room he almost walked straight into a girl he had never seen before. He was quite surprised to see someone he didnt recognise in the castle, but he assumed she must be some distant relative, or worse one of the suitors his father kept picking out for him.
He arced round her in order to avoid a head-on crash, and smiled. It suddenly occurred to him that she was female, and he almost tripped over his own feet while trying to simply stand up.
"Hi. I'm Arthur...the prince...although i guess you probably know that...or maybe you dont...but hello!" He blushed red as he realised how ridiculour he must sound and he offered hsi hand for a shake, then withdrew it quickly and bowed instead.

Arthur tightened the reigns on his mare and pulled her into a slow walk. It was late evening, and the last light of day was just fading. He often went for a ride about this time, always by himself. It allowed him to relax and forget -if only for a few moments- that he was the Prince of Camelot.
Tonight was an especially beautiful night, the leaves on the trees were just starting to turn the colours of sunset that they always did around this time of year. The fruit season was just starting and Arthur stood up in his stirrups to pluck a pear from a nearby tree. It was perfectly ripe and juicy and he was glad that he lived in a country that produces fruit like this opposed to the exotic regions his cousins lived in, where apples and pears were almost unheard of.
He walked his horse onwards, past the rows and rows of trees until he reached the clearing at the end of the orchard. He was quite happy staring out across what would one day be his kingdom, when a voice broke his thoughts.

Arthur struggled back a laugh as he heard the yell. Someone had just had a rabbit-stew-shower, trust Merlin.
Arthur listened as Merlin explained what he had heard from the servants. "A joust? Well I haven't heard my father speak of it, although in all honesty i have been trying my hardest to avoid him. Perhaps i shall visit him later on. I quite fancy proving my worth, especially if that fool Lancelot is competing..."
Arthur detested Lancelot. He was much better with the ladies than Arthur was, and they both knew it. He lorded it over the prince everytime they sparred and he also knew how much it bothered him. Therefore Arthur loved being able to show off the fact that he usually beat Lancelot in a fight. However part of him did worry it was simply because he was the prince.
He groaned as Merlin seemed to read his thoughts and asked about his recent love life. "No, I think he may have just given up, I know i have!" he grimaced as he thought of the fool he had made of himself last time, when Lancelot had of course been there to pick up the pieces. Damn him!
"So how about you Merlin, my man. Have you had any luck in the love department recently?"

Arthur watched as Merlin placed the lid over his dinner and began to cast his strange spell. The alien words he muttered and the brightness in his eyes made Arthur shiver, some part of this just didn't seem natural to him. As the platter glowed brighter and brighter, so Arthur leaned further and further away from it, scared.
"Erm, Merlin..." He began as his friend removed the lid. The food was black and it looked possibly worse than before. Thick 'steam' was billowing across the table and making Arthurs eyes sting. But despite the ashen remains of his dinner, Arthur had to laugh. It was typical Merlin to make something worse when attempting to improve it, and it was one of the reasons he was his closest friend.
Pushing the dish away he smiled, letting the young wizard know he was not angry. "So Merlin, anything knew happening in the kingdom?" He had an invite to King Uthers rooms later on, and it was always better if he had something to impress him with.

"You polished my armour only yesterday my friend!" Arthur smiled. Merlin did too much for him, and although of course he was very grateful he often wondered whether Merlin would ever get used to being a friend of the prince.
"The stew looks...well I'm not going to lie, it looks revolting." Arthur sat down at the head of the table and signalled for Merlin to join him. He picked up a fork and gently poked a large lump of meat? Satisfied that it wasn't going to eat him he put it in his mouth and chewed slowly. It tasted better than it looked, but could do with being hot.
"Merlin any chance you can re-heat this?" Prince Arthur had never quite grasped how Merlins magic worked, he often asked things of him that he had no hope of ever being able to achieve, yet other times he wasn't sure if Merlin could do the simplest of tasks. Magic was just too complicated.

An excellent introducton Dante, on behalf of my father, King Uther I welcome you to Camelot! Please begin RPing when you are ready. One point to bear in mind is that although Dante was an assasin elsewhere, in Camelot he will have to join the army and advance through the ranks in order to call himself and carry out the duties of an assassin. Please PM me if you have any problems
