The Ram was empty enough, it being the wrong time of day for most folk to be free from work. Richard ordered two ales, paying for them both and managing to wrangle it for a cheaper price.
"Here looks quiet enough." Richard sat at a table set away from the entrance to avoid being touched by the wind. Instead of drinking, he ran his fingers over the rim of the wooden cup and stared absently across the room.
"Ye will have ta forgive my curiosity. My wife and ma often said I was too curious for me own good. What do ye remember of Italy and Spain?"

Dante thanked him for the ale and took a sip as they sat down. He took another sip of it before he answered the question. "I don't remember much of Italy at all, I was very young when we left, but Spain was beautiful." He smiled a bit remembering it. "The monastery where I spent most of my childhood and teen years was set in the woods near a small stream. Deer and horses and all manner of small mammals lived there." He replied, not entirely sure what aspect of the country he wanted to hear about.
He took another sip of the ale and placed the mug on the bar, leaning back in his chair and relaxing a bit.

"Monastery?" Richard repeated curiously. "The New religion I assume? How does a person go from living to a monastery ta thinking their only place is in . . ." he trailed off. Dante would know that he was referring to the Brotherhood. Suddenly he answered his own question. "That was when yer the killers came a'knocking?" Aware that he was prying he continued.
"What has Grace told ye about me?"

Dante nodded solemnly. "If God was just he would not let deeds like that go unpunished." He said in a cold tone. His father was his only family and he was still bitter about his murder. He shook his head and took a swill from the mug. "Well she hasn't told me much. Only that you were her guardian and that you're a good man." He smiled over the rim of his tankard. "I believe her."
He finished the last mug and motioned for another. When it was brought to him he thanked the bartender and paid for it, took a small sip and placed it on the table. "What has she said about me?" He asked with a small smile.

Richard could not help the way his lips tightened when Dante invoked his God. So this one was touched by the new ways too.
"A true deity would not claim to be the one who lets bad things happen. They happen." This was muttered to make his words seem less heart felt. Then his eyebrows lifted as Dante finished his drink and ordered another. It seemed the lad had a stomach of iron, to be gulping down his ale like it was water.
"Nothing tha' she didn't say in front of ye. I was going to say, I wont be trusting a person simply because they have a bit o' bad in their past. I know Grace wants to see it as something unique, a bad past. But these are dark times and many are alone." Richard pulled down the neck of his shirt to reveal a circular scar, a sign of plague. "Lost my own family to the plague. Wife and daughters. How did you come to be in Camelot?"

Dante nodded solemnly. "I'm sorry for your loss. Plague took my love from me several years ago." He replied. That was another reason to hate the Pendragons he realized. They had mages at their disposal who could find the cure for all of these diseases but they were to busy pouring over ancient tomes to find the use for some old dusty orb. He shook his head, now was not the time for those kind of thoughts.
"I came to Camelot after I was seen assassinating someone. The organization I used to work for put me on a ship and did not tell me where I was going, and when it landed I ended up here." He replied and took another sip of his ale. He liked the ale, perhaps too much. Whenever he drank it he was fine for the first four or five, but he never knew when to quit. Even he could only drink so much before he couldn't stand straight.

Richard's lip curled as Dante mentioned the organization he used to work for shipping him off but didn't comment. Loyalty and honour appeared to be two dying traits. Tossing his head, he waited for Dante to add something. Usually a quiet man, Richard hated trying to carry a conversation by himself. He ran his fingertips over the the lip of his tankard and then swallowed some of the ale.
"Do you have anything ye wish to ask?"

Dante took a small sip of his ale and thought. What did he want to ask this man he had just met, this man who already knew so much about him. He placed his mug gently on the table and mulled a few options over in his head. He wanted to know a lot of things about him. He figured it best to start with the basics.
"Where are you from?" He asked. He could tell by the accent he was from Britain but he knew not where in the realm Richard was born.
