Name: Ollovedre
Age: 25, or 625, depending on how you count.
Sex: Female
Class: Druid
Appearance:
Ollovedre has a rather small build, standing only 5’6â€, and with a slim figure. Her hands are small, pale and delicate, with long, graceful fingers. Her heart shaped face is topped be a short crop of unruly blond hair. She has a smiling mouth, small nose, and bright, laughing eyes. At least, her left eye is. Her right eye was long ago replaced by a perfect sphere of pure, clear emerald. This eye glitters with a concealed malevolence that seems out of place in her smiling face. She always seems to be laughing, even when she’s not, and there is a permanent smile lifting the corners of her pink-lipped mouth. Her remaining real eye occasionally dances with a mischievous glint, hinting at a darker humor within.
Played by Brittany Daniels.
Character:
Describing Ollovedre’s personality is a rather complex process. If you were to describe her in one word, it would be “unique.†However, as that is a very unsatisfactory answer, you might be required do dig a little deeper. In order to do this, you would first have to understand Ollo’s immense desire to simply have fun. No matter what happens, she wants to enjoy herself.
Next, you have to come to terms with the fact that, to Ollo, people are simply expendable. It’s no that she goes around killing people, but unless you’re useful to her in some way or she’s taken a liking to you, your life means nothing to her, and she wouldn’t lift a finger to save you. This comes not so much from Ollovedre herself than from the era she came from.
Once that is fully comprehended, you must realize that Ollo is just bluffs and empty threats. She is so marvelously skilled at making threats and frightening people that she almost never has to follow through. However, she never makes a threat that she couldn’t complete should she choose, and if you anger her, the full force of her power will be seen, and it won’t be pretty.
Now, as grim and morbid as that all may sound, Ollo really is a pretty easy-going person. She does play the odd practical joke, but for the most part she’s willing to simply go with the flow.
She is also a great conversationalist and an excellent travel companion. All in all, she’s a wonderful friend to have, if for no other reason than you wouldn’t want her as an enemy.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
Strengths
• She is unaccountably skilled at making threats, so that any unpleasant situation can be mellowed, with the help of whoever’s nearby.
• Extremely powerful magic.
• Skilled with a quarterstaff.
Weaknesses
• Other that with a staff, she is useless in any kind of physical fight.
• Her mischievousness often gets her into trouble of all kinds.
• She doesn’t seem to know how to approach a delicate subject, usually going for a blunt approach and making herself seem rather crass.
Magic:
Ollovedre possesses a unique brand of magic in the post Roman world. It’s a far cry from either white or dark magic. It’s not the same as elemental magic, though there are similarities. It would even differ from the magic of a modern Druid. For Ollovedre has command of the Old Magic.
Old Magic goes much deeper than any other branch of magic. A master can bend iron or steel to their will, call up clouds or fog or ran and banish them similarly, and can take the shape of plants or animals on a whim. An Old Magic Druid can have a lengthy conversation with a rock, or call upon trees to do her bidding. Ollovedre is one such master. Her power is so great that she can even transform the shape of others, a rare and difficult skill.
However, Ollo’s power goes much further than that. She can read the auguries in a dying man’s blood and from that predict a king’s reign. She can tell a person’s future by the way a snake slithers through ashes. She often makes charms of various powers, and using material objects, she can work spells of bliss or curses of terror, and everything in between. She can weave a spell of concealment and create an impenetrable ghost fence.
On top of all that, should she choose, she can place such a curse on you that your soul would scream in horror and torment for all time, never finding rest. Such are the skills of the Old Magic.
Weaponry Skills:
Ollo has considerable skill with a quarter staff, but with any other weapon, or even unarmed, she’s a greater danger to herself than her opponent.
Character History:
As she was born some 600 or more years ago, Ollovedre had a very singular childhood. She grew up in Britain, but it was a far cry from the world of Camelot. There were no castles, no honorable knights, no law systems, and no kings except those powerful enough to claim the title by force. It was a dark time, ruled by swords and spears, and awash with blood. The Romans had not yet even been heard of by the British, had not come to bridle the warlords and put and end to their constant wars.
It was in this bloody era that Ollo grew from a child to an adult. She had no memory of where she was originally from, though chances are she’s British, ant at that time she had a different name, one she has not used in a long time. As a very small child, she was to a Druid as a slave. The Druid was not a cruel man, but the life of a slave is a hard one, and most would have lost hope for a brighter future. But Ollovedre was clever and intuitive even at a young age. She studied her Druid master, and over the years she learned things; charms and rituals, enchantments and curses. But still, it was a pitiful repertoire, and she had no actual training, along with little or no time to practice her acquired skills.
At the age of twelve, she attempted to run away from the Druid’s hall. Her attempt was thwarted, and as a punishment, the Druid stabbed out her right eye. From that day forward, Ollovedre harbored a deep hatred of the Druid, and less than a year later, that hatred showed itself in the lack of night. As her Druid master lay sleeping, Ollovedre crept into his chambers, whereupon she cut a hank of his hair. With his hair, she wrought a powerful curse upon the Druid.
He died three days later.
Having successfully obtained freedom, Ollo took the Druid’s staff and as much gold as she could carry, and left Britain. She bought passage on a ship heading south, which took her all the way to the city of Rome. Once there, she spent several weeks in search of a craftsman skilled enough to suit her purpose. After being found, this man was generously paid to carve and polish a lump of emerald into a perfect sphere. This was to be Ollo’s new eye.
She then journeyed back north, by land this time. When she arrived in Britain, she found two warlords locked in a brutal war that was ravaging the country. This made Ollo decide to continue her journey to Ireland. It was there that she completed her training as a Druid, becoming one of the most powerful in Britain. It was also there that she earned her name, Ollovedre, which in the Celtic tongue means “Green Eye.†After her training, she returned to post-war Britain for several years, becoming very close friends with a killer of kings. After she was killed, Ollovedre decided to pass some time in the form of a tree. However, time passes much faster for trees, and what felt to Ollo like perhaps 5 yeas on the outside, was, in fact, 600 years.

Sample Roleplay:
Thunder crashed. A second later, lightning split the sky. Down, below, a lone figure in white strolled unconcernedly through a dense forest. The wood was thronged with bandits and masterless men due to the aftermath of King Brochvael’s death, but that did not seem to concern the solitary woman. Brochvael had not been a very popular king, so, when he had been killed without an heir, most of his considerable army deserted rather than try and sort out the resulting mess on his side. They now wandered the country side in search of poor working folk who they could terrorize for gold. This was made worse by the fact that he had not been killed by a war band that could take over in his stead. The lone walker, who had by now reached a large clearing, stopped and laughed softly. A woman, it had been! And not even a British woman at that! Ollo sighed. She had become very close to Brochvael’s killer. A good strong woman she had been, with a decent head on hr shoulders, and the Gods know there were few enough of those to go around. However, Brochvael’s few supporters, fools that they were, had decided that killing a king necessitated a punishment of death. But Ollo had made sure that they had gotten exactly what they deserved. She smiled maliciously, then sighed again. Still, it was such a pity.
But, what’s done is done, and what would follow was inevitable. The kingdom would be the center of 2 or 3 years o chaos while a replacement king was found and fought for. This was something Ollo, having experienced it before, had no wish to repeat. Besides, this was something she’d always wanted to try. She walked to the center of the clearing and raised her arms to the sky. This was not strictly necessary, but if anyone was watching, it paid to make a good show. And anyway, it felt a lot more decisive than standing like a fool in the woods. She sent a quick prayer winging its way up to the storm ridden heavens. Yew, I think.
At this point, the storm came upon that section of woods. The sky darkened as thunder roared its defiance to the treetops. Sheets of rain sliced down to beat the leaves and the wind howled in fury. A flash of lightning illuminated, just for a moment, a large clearing with a solitary yew tree in the center.
