Lexi's head followed Arthur as he circled her, looking her up and down. She was still uncertain about him and his actions, but decided not to ask. "Yes, I am new..." she tried to say, but then he cut her off with another question.
"Well, yes but... Um..." Frantically, she tried to remember why she wasn't working today. She knew there was a good reason, but, for the life of her, she couldn't remember it! Darn her and her trouble remembering things that weren't interesting! Fidgeting uncomfortably, she looked everywhere but at Arthur.
"Wait! I remember now! I didn't go to work today because I'm stalking my previous boss, who fired me for not showing up for work. OK? Oh, and that isn't you. I lost track of him a while ago and decided to take a brake before finding him again, and then you came along and I forgot what I was doing until you just asked me." It was a complete lie, but she said it with so much certainty and unusual seriousness that she thought he might fall for it. If he didn't, she'd still laugh. If he did, that'd be even more funny. But it was something to say while she tried to remember why she really wasn't working.

The prince watched as she solemnly told her story. It was all a bit unbelievable after the madness and comedy that she had been caught up in so far on that bright winter morning, and strangely Arthur found it hard to digest. "You didn't show up for your previous job?" Arthur asked, a hint of humour in his voice, although he disguised it very well. He didn't want Lexi to realise he was pulling her leg. "Well, if you were fired for that I think it a very good reason. Perhaps the King best know about this..." He began to walk away, pretending he was off to the castle to tell the king about his 'findings'. He thought for sure the girl would then tell him the truth or at least stop him from going. It was all good fun though, and of course the prince had no intention of getting an innocent- although very confident- young girl fired from her job.

"Wa-wa-wa wait!" Frantically, Alexis raced after him, waving her hands in her exasperations. "I was joking! I was joking! I remember now!" Skidding to a halt beside him, she put a hand on his shoulder to stop him. She did not want to risk her job. If she lost it, she didn't know where she would go. Probably to some inn mainly visited by drunks, not the kind of place Lexi would enjoy being in. She loved her job at the castle, she loved everything about this place.
"Please.. I was joking. Some of the gardeners were told that since the ground was piratically frozen, we could take the day off until it warms up a bit and we can actually stick a shovel into the ground." It was the complete truth, and she waited anxiously to see if he believed her or not. After all, she had lied - but she convinced herself it had been just a joke - about her reason just a few seconds ago. She couldn't tell if he believed her, was just playing along, was being just annoying, or anything else. Curse her easily confused mind.

Arthur turned as he felt the nimble but strong gardeners hands on his shoulder. He frowned while she explained her story but inside he wanted to laugh. "So why did you tell me you were stalking your previous boss?" He asked narrowing his eyes further, "I think the king best know his gardener is a liar."
On that note Arthur strode away but the laughter was beginning to get the best of him and he began to chuckle, his shoulders shaking uncontrollably. He glanced back behind him quickly to see if Alexis had noticed.

Lexi's stubborn side finally got a hold of her. Her eyes narrowed angrily, and she glared after the hardheaded boy. Who was he, the prince? Yeah, sure. The prince probably wouldn't bother with a lowly servant like Lexi. And hadn't she already told him why she lied? She had a bad memory, that was all! But then she saw his shoulders shake, or she thought she did. Opening her eyes fully, she gave him a terribly confused look when he glanced back at her.
"You are enjoying this way too much, I think," she told him. "I wasn't lying. OK, maybe I was. But only because I couldn't remember why." A grin spread across her face. "I have a bad memory. Easily sidetracked!" She spun around on the back of her booted heel, making a comical face, then stood back in place. "Oh, and just who are you? I've done told you who I am, so it's your turn." She pasued for a second, then corrected herself. "I've already, I mean."

Arthur laughed out loud, giving up on his pretense at being angry, although he wasn't quite ready to reveal his real identity just yet. He smiled a toothy grin and shrugged his shoulders hard. "Who I am is not important. I am just a normal boy out for a row." He smiled again and signalled to the still floating boat. "In fact, how about a trip down river?" He asked, "I can guarantee there's no mud for me to fall into and i promise i won't ask any more gruelling questions about your job or life. In fact why don't you ask me questions about my life?" He smiled knowingly, loving the fact that Lexi had no clue who he was. It made a change from the usual bowing and scraping that greeted him wherever he went, and although Lexi was fast proving herself to be the complete opposite of those people, he wasn;t willing to take the risk just yet.

Lexi's eye followed his signal to the boat. She'd completely forgotten it was still there. It would be fun to go boating. It was a bit disappointing that there wouldn't be any more mud for 'the normal boy' to fall into. That had been quiet amusing, but it was very possible it wouldn't be as funny the second time. When he finished talking, Lexi gave him a look, arms crossed stubbornly. "Sounds fun," she began,"But I just tried to ask you who you were, and you didn't answer my question. So how do I know you're going to answer my other questions? I can't just call you 'the normal boy' all the time." It perplexed Lexi that he didn't want to give up his name. Maybe now she had him cornered.

"Jack," He replied absent mindedly, busying himself with pushing the boat into the water, "But normal boy will do." He smiled, wondering when the last time anyone had referred to him as "normal" had been, and held out a hand to help Lexi into the boat. Although he was cooler now, the sun was still shining and he decided to leave his royal-red jacket crumpled in the bottom of the vessel for he would only start sweating again when he took up rowing.
"Well maybe I'll have to decide whether each question deserves an answer first then." He laughed, putting one foot into the boat and balancing precariously on the slippery mud with the other. "I guess that's a risk you'll just have to take!"

[OOC: 20 xD] Lexi rolled her eyes and unfirled her arms. She still didn't know what to think about Jack. Ah well, she was going to get a boat ride, and that might prove worth the trouble. So she just shrugged and grinned a half grin. "Guess that'll have to work, then!" She moved closer to the boat and jumped from the muddy ground, landing in the boat. It threatened to pull away from Jack, but then settled. Lexi stood fully and held out an arm to Jack, in case he needed help getting on.

Struggling to keep his balance yet again -what was wrong with him today?- "Jack" steadied the boat as Alexis hopped in, her light frame barely altering the position of the vessel on the fast running water. With a glance, Arthur suddenly realised he was going to need to push the boat out into the water if they wanted to row further. The water was cold and definitely not what Arthur had planned for, but he was trying to be a gentleman and without a second thought he submerged himself right up to his knees and began to push. The icy water sloshed against his thighs and before he knew it he was up to his waist, luckily by then though, the boat was keen to drift off with the current anyway and Arthur finally hopped back in, soaking Lexi in the process.
The wind blew against his wet slacks and left him cold and shivering, taking up the oars he began to row as fast as he could, trying to get himself warm again.

Lexi exclaimed in shock as she was soaked by Jack. The water was freezing cold! She hadn't realized it had been. How kind of him to have pushed him into the river. She shook her arms to get some of the water off, and ran her fingers through her tangled curly hair. She giggled to herself as he rowed frantically, looking rather funny. She settled down on the opposite side of the boat, crossing her legs and holding her hands in her lap, watching Jack. She only then realized she was sitting on his fancy red jacket. She adjusted herself to pull it out from under her. "Umm..." she trailed off, holding it up so he could see it. "Hopefully you don't need this for anything... formal..." The jacket was wrinkled and wet, water darkening it to make it look like it'd been spotted with dark paint. She giggled again to herself, thinking how Jack would look if he needed to wear it. Like he'd jumped in the river itself, she thought.

Arthur, or Jack as he was now calling himself, froze as Lexi pulled his royal jacket from under her. It was newly spotted with water, but he was more worried that it was the evidence that would ruin his disguise.
"Oh no, that's not even mine. I, uh, found it up in the city. Guess a knight must have dropped it or something. Cool though hey?" He was trying desperately to lose his noble slur and talk more like the young farm hands who so often tried out to be knights. He could almost never accept them into his ranks, for they lacked the responsibility and maturity it took to be a soldier, but he loved to talk to them and hear there down to earth and colourful accents.
He lay the oars down and laid back in the boat himself, enjoying the noise of the water lapping against the side of the boat as they drifted slowly downstream. They were nearing the city boundaries now, with the archers patrolling the perimeter. Arthur had yet to realise the danger they posed to his alias but it was sure to cause all sorts of trouble soon.

Lexi thought she heard a slightly different tone in his voice; was he trying to change his accent? Or was it just her imagination? And was he hesitating? The girl didn't know much about how to read other people, but she could tell when a beginner was trying to lie. She had become an expert at making stories up on the spot to help her get out of sticky situations. Well, sometimes she could. Usually that was when she had nowhere she could run, and her mind just snapped a story into her head. And a believable one, unlike the story she'd first told Jack. She could have gotten out of there if it came down to it. Or she hoped she would have been able to.
So she'd just play along.
"Sure is!" She added a grin to that and set the jacket to the side. It was such a pretty day out, even for winter. It was her first winter here, and she didn't know how the weather acted usually. She was from this country, just not this area. It might be just the same as home, she didn't know. She followed Jack's lead and leaned back against the side of the boat. Her eyes didn't close though. She scanned the area around, enjoying the beauty of the water and land. She couldn't wait to see this place in the spring. It would be amazing. "Amazing day... OH MY WORD!" She turned over on her side and pointed down into the dirty-ish water. A giant fish swam below them, hardly visible. In real life, it was probably less than a foot and a half. But in Lexi's mind, it was ten. She loved overreacting and exaggerating.

Arthur smothered a laugh as Lexi nearly cried with excitement over a fish. "Oh yeah...a fish..." He said, looking at Lexi with one raised eyebrow. "That's not even a big one..." He pointed further away towards the bank where a 2 foot Carp was swimming in the murky depths. It was funny to find someone who was excited by something as mundane as fish but it was also a little odd.
"HALT!" A voice broke the peace on the river, as soldiers from the city walls spotted the boat as it drifted into the waterways of Camelot. "Who goes there? Stop or we will be forced to shoot!" Arthur sat up instantly, aware that his cover was about to be blown. He could of course continue to lie, but it was more than likely they would be shot for not having the authority to travel this way.
"Sire? Is that you?" One of the soldiers had recognised him and Arthur's heart sank. It was over and now Lexi would change.

Lexi's mouth fell open as her eyes went to the carp. She was constantly being surprised by the size variations of fish. And she was just easily bored and easily amused. She was speechless as she watched it swim for a second. Then a sudden shouted voice made her jump nearly out of her skin. Turning to face the speaker, she half drew the small knife she kept tucked in her boot. Then she realized they were soldiers from Camelot. Another might have relaxed slightly, but Alexis wouldn't have, especially considering the circumstances of being trapped in a boat in the middle of the river. The fact that Jack seemed tense made her all more aware that this might be trouble.
Then one of the soldiers called Jack 'sire'. She looked over at him her eyes widening. Of course. The jacket. It wasn't some jacket he'd found. It was his. So he was a noble of some sorts. Then it all clicked in her head. Jack was not Jack, but Prince Arthur. She had seem him from a distance during work one day, but never really got a good look at him. This was just great. How long had he expected her to go without figuring it out? Well, truth be told, Lexi might have gone the rest of her life without making the connection, but that would be kind of hard with other people around who actually knew what Jack- no, Arthur looked like.
She only then let go of the tension in her body. Face completely blank, her words were dry, without their normal smile or laugh in them. "Well, this is awkward."
