Dreamer unfolded the piece of paper he had stashed in his jacket pocket and read it again. It said he was to meet in a specific location for his next Mage test. The note was specific in telling him to come prepared for anything. So he had, folding the note back up, he waved to the guardsman at the gate before making a quick assessment. The note had said to be prepared for anything, but he didn't expect to go very far from Camelot, so he had packed light. The obvious days worth of food and some other small essentials, other than that, he had on what he wore.
Which was his battle attire.
Dreamer wore his trademark white, recently washed. His belt held four daggers as well as pouches, carrying small essentials here and there. On his left forearm was a special strap that held three thin throwing knives. The same on the upper part of his right arm, under the armpit, but that held five. Strapped to his left leg was a smaller dagger, strapped tightly against his boot. Strapped and ready for battle, Dreamer checked the bag on his bag and smiled, the two blades in there hadn't punctured the food.
Some would call him paranoid, he liked to think of it as being cautious.
Grabbing a leather ribbon from one of the pouched, Dreamer began wrapping it around his hair from falling over his face. It was an annoying inconvenience, Yet Dreamer couldn't push himself to get it cut. As he did that he was stopped as he became aware of a low humming. It wasn't as if he was hearing it, but he felt it. Looking around, Dreamer realized he had been so caught up in his thoughts that he hadn't noticed one of the mage's from the council in the clearing. He was a nervous man, but confident in his magical abilities. Dreamer found it odd that he was out there waiting for him when it should have been Merlin.Even more odd was the company he was talking too.
Chase
Dreamer sighed and began walking to the two of them, for all the things he could be prepared for, dealing with Chase was never one of them.

Chase approached the field feeling quite pleased with himself. He was about to get his second mage status. This would put him in front of Dreamer who was still only a Magician in dark magic. Of course he would have to pass whatever test they gave him but Chase was confident he would. After all he was far stronger then he had been the last time he had passed a mage test. How hard could this one be? Not only that but circumstances were in his favour. It was cloudy and threatening to rain which meant that not only was it relatively dark but there would be water for him to use as well.
Chase noticed as he approached that there were several protections laid around the field. He couldn't tell exactly what they were but most of them seemed to be a barrier around the field.
A mage from the council was waiting for him. "What are you doing here?" Chase asked curiously, "Aren't all mage tests are supposed to be overseen my Merlin."
Before the man could answer out of the corner of his eye Chase caught sight of someone approaching. He did a double take as his mind recognized the figure. Dreamer!
Chase spun around to face Dreamer. "What are you doing here? I am trying to take my mage test get out of here!"

What are you doing here? I am trying to take my mage test get out of here!
Dreamer took only a moment to look at Chase before he looked at the Mage standing there, looking increasingly nervous now that Dreamer had arrived. It was odd, Merlin was supposed to oversee all Mage tests. Dreamer had never heard of an exception to that rule, and yet here they were. Not only that, but it seems both he and Chase had been promised a test. An odd occurrence, and Dreamer suspected it was not a mistake.
"What is going on here?" Dreamer said, addressing the Mage, whom Dreamer remembered as Daniel. Referred to as Mage Regulus,One of the few mages of the Dark Arts the Guild had, Dreamer was going to call him Daniel. "Daniel..." Dreamer said, coaxing the mage to continue what he was saying. The man looked between Dreamer and Chase before continuing.
"As i was going to say, Merlin is unavailable at the moment, so the council has announced that i oversee the test between you two...".

Chase listened as the council mage explained why he was there instead of Merlin. Chase didn't believe a word the man said. He had seen Merlin only two days before and Merlin hadn't mentioned anything about being busy. He wondered whether the rumors that the council resented Merlin's authority in the choosing of mages were true and that it had finally decided to go against Merlin.
"Ok I could care less why you are here. What I want to know is what is my test and why a half talented mage who has gotten by with luck and cheating doing here." Chase's tone even more then his words showed just how much he hated Dreamer. "This is supposed to be my test."

Dreamer couldn't resist, despite the words of hate that chase used to lash out at him, he couldn't help but start laughing. It started with a twisted smile, he attempted at keeping in, but just couldn't. He laughed as quiet as he could for a moment before he finally looked at chase with a sideways grin. "Those are some big words from the big bad mage who's father grounded him for a week", Dreamer laughed for a few more seconds before looking back at the Mage,"Excuse me if im not intimidated, now be quiet over there little one, the Adults are talking now".
It was a full indication that Daniel should continue, but Dreamer saw him composing himself for a moment before he could speak. The man didn't seem one for laughter, but apparently he couldn't help himself from grinning. After a moment the man continued, "Actually you both will be tested today, The council has been determined that the only suitable test for the both of you is a dual, you may battle by any mean's necessary to win, the winner of this match will be given the honor of their mage status, the other....will not" The man let those last words hang for a second before he turned to leave.

Rage coursed through Chase at Dreamer's comment. How dare he mention the grounding! How in the world had Dreamer even heard about that Chase wondered. Chase had done all he could to stifle the story.
While Chase was still frozen with fury the council mage explained their test. "Perfect!" Chase thought. Finally he would be able to crush Dreamer and show just how superior he was. Today it would be Dreamer who went home in shame.
Chase didn't even wait for the council mage to get out of the immediate attack zone chanting, "Sul en' aha" It was a simple spell that would simply cause Dreamer to get hit by vicious wind. Chase had used it because while it wasn't as strong or complex as some of his other spells it was faster so hopefully he would catch Dreamer unprepared. Hopefully the council mage would have some sort of protection in place so he wouldn't get hurt. Although Chase realized that if the man didn't then he might actually get blown into Dreamer which might leave an opening for another attack.

Dreamer had not expected Chase to be so forward in his assault, not even bothering to wait for a signal. Dreamer was caught off guard as he attempted to turn, but the winds were able to catch him just right that he was knocked against the ground. Even as he lay down, the winds kept to their assault, and yet they weren't strong enough to keep him down.
Rising at a run, Dreamer left his bag alone on the ground, he suspected they weren't going to be having a pleasant chat over dinner anytime soon. Flinching as another wind slammed into his shoulder, Dreamer began to chant his own spell. Turning, he began to weave left and right as he approached Chase.
"Blind thy Foe Wallow in Woe!..." His song began.
A brilliant light erupted into the night, casting the night aside as shadows rose. Dreamer noticed the change and stored the information away loosely, he may need it. Catching up to the blinded Chase, Dreamer brought his fist around to punch in the side of the head. If it were to hit, as he suspected it might, it was going to hurt.

Chase felt confident as he saw that Dreamer had indeed not managed to block his attack in time. While the damage wasn't that bad he had still managed to inflict several cuts and bruises on Dreamer. Which would start to hurt more as the battle continued. Also he had separated Dreamer from whatever was in his bag. Even though Chase felt confident that whatever was in the bag couldn't have been all that important since Dreamer had abandoned it.
Chase felt confident that the items he had in his pockets would be incredibly useful. He had brought several small wooden tokens. Or at least thats what they seemed like. In reality he had enchanted each one with the same spell he had used to defend his hidden lair in the sewers. He had also brought several knives that were hidden around varios places in his clothing.
Suddenly a flash went off and Chase's vision was blined by the light. It took him a second to realize what had happened. Dreamer was finally starting his counter attack. Chase stumbled backwards trying to think of a spell to counter the blindness "Dychwelyd tywyllwch y golau" He shouted pushing his magic into it. The light stopped and Chase looked around for Dreamer.
Chase saw Dreamer just as Dreamer's fist connected with the side of his head. Chase saw stars for a second as he fell to the ground. "De" He yelled pushing extra magic into it so that he shot up into the air before Dreamer could react. Chase cursed his carelessness that had allowed Dreamer to get in a hit. Luckily he wasn't bleeding but his head ached.
Chase ignored the pain to murmur, "Mallen sul en' qualme auta de alu en' gurtha" It was a more complex spell then his previous one and should create a whirlwind with Dreamer at the center while any water in the earth below started to rise up and strangle him. If it worked like Chase had planned then while Dreamer was busy raising shields against the wind he wouldn't notice the water creeping up below him.

Dreamer had his arm pulled back, ready to connect another blow to Chase's pretty little face. Unfortunately, Chase seemed to have activated the enchantment on his boots. Off to the air he took, ready to pick Dreamer off from afar. Of course, that's what Dreamer had assumed Chase would fight, he figured the boy didn't enjoy getting his hands dirty. Let alone take the bruises to his head, than again, no one would really enjoy the last one.
Caught off guard, yet again, by another one of Chase's tricks. Dreamer instinctively pulled his arms in front of his face as he was sent spinning in the heart of a miniature whirlwind. Thinking quickly, Dreamer pulled his arms down and continued his spell song.
"....Take my turn, With Shield so Firm, Feels so light be ready for flight..."
Dreamer willed a shield to form that would not only block the wind, but use it. Dreamer felt a give for a second, and a unsteady jerk, before Dreamer hovered gently in the air. Then he began to rise at a slower pace, Dreamer looked up and smiled at Chase, to see his face when he realized his spell didn't work.
Yet it did, just not in the way either of them suspected.
Dreamer was caught off guard (again), as the water from the earth shot up to strike Dreamer. He was Surprised as they hit his shield with such force that Dreamer let go of his shield, but not before it propelled him toward Chase. Reaching out, Dreamer grasped the boy by his shirt and twisted his arm around one of his arms, as his legs tightened around his waist.
Dreamer dared not reach for a dagger, but he considered it. "Surprised?" he said in the boys ear, "Well so am i!".

Chase watched as Dreamer once more was unable to block his spell. It made Chase realize just how useful wind was. It was so fast that it was hard to block. Not to mention it would find the smallest hole in any shield and pass right through. Unfortunately it was also clear that wind by itself wouldn't harm Dreamer enough for Chase to win this battle at the speed he wanted to.
Chase watched agape as Dreamer not only blocked his wind but also somehow managed to rise up into the. That couldn't be possible. Light had nothing to do with flying, but somehow Dreamer was managing to rise into the air. It took him a coupe of seconds to realize what was actually happening. Dreamer was literally riding his wind. Chase quickly increased the power of the water spell hoping to knock Dreamer down injuring him.
Unfortunately while his spell did indeed knock Dreamer's shield but also propelled him towards Chase. The next thing Chase knew Dreamer had somehow managed to jump over and catch hold of Chase.
Chase struggled with Dreamer for a second as both of them started a slow descent. Finally he brought up his knee hoping to kick Dreamer in the groin forcing him to let go.

Low Blow
Dreamer felt the impact against his groin, causing his stomach to feel like it was empty and his everything to feel like dead weight. The one spot that any man was weak to, and Chase had to strike there. Dreamer's hold did falter for a minute, but he regained quickly. Still in pain, Dreamer was now extremely pissed. Dreamer, the only one there who had mobility to every limb, began to move. In order to get out of the reach of Chase's knees, Dreamer moved to his back.
With one arm around his neck, locked together with one holding his left arm in place in the air. His Arms were now firmly locked to Chase's waist, neither of them were going anywhere. "Who's the Cheater now Chase!" Dreamer screamed, "Try and cast a spell now!". Dreamer's emotions may have been flared, but he was still under control. "Give up now! And we can both get out of here somewhat in working condition!...Put us down NOW!".

Chase at first felt confident when he felt his blow connect. Unfortunately Dreamer was tougher then Chase had thought. He had somehow managed to keep on and while Chase was waiting for his grip to weaken so that Chase could throw Dreamer down to the ground but instead Dreamer somehow managed to hold on and even get unto Chase's back.
This was bad. Chase had to get him off fast. Unfortunately Chase couldn't use a spell since Dreamer was choking his throat. Also he would want to get Dreamer off now as they were both slowly sinking towards the ground and were now barely over ten feet off the ground.
Chase brought his right hand up to punch Dreamer in his adam's apple. Chase had learned long ago just how much damage could be caused by hitting someone's throat. Not only would it hurt but they also wouldn't be able to breath for a couple of seconds. Simultaneously Chase attempted to kick Dreamer with his foot. It wouldn't cause much damage but might loosen his hold some more.

Dreamer hadn't seen the blow to the throat, but he felt it. He made a chocking sound as he coughed loudly into Chase's ear. He felt a blow to his back as well, but hardly noticed it in comparison to his throat. As a reaction to pain, Dreamer's hold on Chase increased to a new level. That was until he noticed what he was doing. In shock, he let go of Chase completely, still trying to catch his breath.
He wasn't a complete idiot though, Dreamer knew he had to get down, but he was limited in how he could do that safely. Deciding to take the more interesting route, Dreamer grabbed Chases hair and dragged him down. Since it was Chase's shoes that kept him up, Dreamer merely changed how Chase was holding himself. Now upside down, Dreamer was hanging on to Chase's hair alone. That was when he realized his mistake, The hair may not last as long as he hoped.
Woops.

Chase felt his whole world turn upside down as Dreamer grabbed his hair and Chase was pulled upside down. The pain in his head was excruciating. Chase desperately tried to think of something he could do to get Dreamer off of him. Unfortunately Chase's body gave out on him before he could do anything. Chase watched in horror as he saw Dreamer falling holding in his hand several small clumps of Chase's hair.
Chase barely restrained himself from flying down and catching Dreamer just to have the pleasure of throwing him down again. Only his years of training about not letting anger control him in a fight kept him from going down and beating Dreamer into the ground with his bare hands. A drop of water fell onto his forehead as he righted himself. It was that more then anything else that calmed Chase down. He needed to attack while Dreamer was still shaken by the fall and unable to breath from Chase's punch. Chase channelled his anger into his next spell. He pulled out one of his knives and as he threw it to where Dreamer was on the ground murmured "Llafn rhewi tywyllwch sul men rhunenya" The spells he had uttered should not only poison the knife with a paralyser that would keep Dreamer from uttering any more annoying spells but should also ensure that the dagger threw straight and had some extra power to help it go through shields.
Even while his knife was hurtling towards Dreamer Chase pulled four of his magical tokens out of his pocket and threw them in a square about five feet from Dreamer in each direction. Now if Dreamer somehow managed to escape the knife he would still run into the trap and get wounded.

Dreamer looked up and forgot where he was for a moment. Focusing up into the sky, he tried to remember why his head hurt. No, wait, why did everything hurt? Than it hit him, the battle he fought, wait no he was still fighting. He must have passed out, blacked out from the impact to the ground. He began to pick himself up, which was when he noticed the knife burried in his shoulder.
The shoulder that refused to move.
Than Dreamer felt it, the effect the blade was having on his body. It must have been enchanted to constrict his body, or paralyze it. The only way that could happen is if Chase had used Dark Magic. Dark Magic, the one thing that Dreamer was keeping himself from using. Yet, at this point, why should he? Dreamer grabbed the knife with his free hand and gritted his teeth as he pulled the blade out.
The pain only intensified his feelings
Using that Pain, Dreamer dug deep and fought the black magic Chase had forced into him. The taint, Chase's own brand of black magic, Dreamer rid himself of it.
"Begone my enemy Begone this taint Relief, flow into me Relief, i will not wait"
Chase's magic stood no chance, in moments Dreamer's physical pains were gone, as was the paralysis. Rising to his feet, Dreamer looked up to see Chase trying something, something that wasn't going to work. Dreamer glared at him as His eyes blazed gold, casting his own brand of magic.
His own brand of dark Magic
"Feel this pain Feel it well Attempts in vain Come, Shadows i've tame..."
Dreamer lashed out with his hand, and as he did, not only did he release the very blade of paralysis that Chase had used on him, he unleashed his spell. A spell that would cause the shadow's around him to focus in his hand, and lash out directly from several directions in a tentacle form. All of, aiming at one enemy and one enemy alone, Chase.
