After receiving instructions from one of King Uther's runners that she had been assigned as a part-time maid to Lady Annabell, Gill had spent the best part of an hour excitedly wandering the castle halls trying to locate her quarters.
She was very excited. After only having worked in the castle for such a short time, she had never expected to be given such an important task! She wondered if Lady Annabell had any other maids? It seemed odd to Gill to think of such a fine lady traveling alone...
Fixing her face with a warm smile, she pushed open the heavy wooden doors. Gill's face fell when she was greeted by an empty room. The lady must be out at court, or dinner, or riding. Disappointed, she decided to stay around, make herself useful and tidy things up a bit so she could introduce herself whenever Annabell returned.

Anna had just returned from the market, shopping around for a new dress. She'd returned to the castle with dress in arms, wanting nothing more than to return to her chamber and curl up in her bed. She had to admit, she was going to milk the all you can eat food and soft luxorious bed.
She pushed open her door and let out a startled scream. She glanced over her shoulder to the corridor and walked into her room, shutting the door. "Who are you, and why are you in my chamber?" At a moments notice Anna could reach for the concealed daggar that was strapped to her thigh.

Gill jumped in the air like a startled cat at the sound of the scream. She spun around and dropped into a low courtsey as a question from the woman she assumed must be Lady Annabell was directed to her.
"My lady," she bobbed her head, "My name is Gillianne, I've been sent by King Uther as your maid. I'm sorry if I startled you."
She raised her eyes to meet the Lady's, but kept her head bowed low as a sign of respect and her subordinate position. The woman was obviously shocked and not been expecting a maid, which was not a good start. Gill had wanted to make a good first impression.

"I.. um." How did someone act with a servant? "Thank you. Sorry, it's been awhile since I've had a servant."
Anna's eyes searched the room, making sure this woman hadn't snooped. She didn't have much to give herself away, but she did have several different weapons. Two daggars, and short sword, and an knife. And she didn't really need questions. Or more lies.
"I'm glad to have a maid now, my bedroom was in much disary."

"Oh that's quite alright," Gill was just relieved that Lady Anna had recovered from the shock so quickly. "Well I came up here to introduce myself and to tidy things up a bit, but I didn't like to start until you were here, in case you had specific rules about where you wanted things. Or certain things you didn't want touched." Gill clamped her mouth closed, aware that chatting too much to a noble may be considered rudeness. Instead, she asked politely, indictating the dress in Anna's arms:
"May I take it for you m'lady? It's such a lovely dress, it'd be a shame if it got crumpled." She walked over to Anna, arms outstretched.

Anna looked down at the dress, half forgetting it. "Oh, sure. Just put it in my trunk over there... Um.. On second thought it can just be hung somewhere." The trunk had important things in it. Not to be seen by servants.
"Just as a note, my trunk is off limits. This one atleast." She motioned to the intricately designed trunk, the simpler one was fine. "This plain chest is for storage." She moved towards the off limits trunk, locking it and pulling back with the key. She placed it on the chain at her throat.

Gill stood holding the dress over her arm as Anna explained about the trunks, locking one and hanging the key around her throat. She must have various valuables in there, Gill concluded, what with being such a fine lady. It wasn't a surprise that she didn't want to leave it unlocked, servants at the palace were often heard to have stolen things from their masters and mistresses.
"Of course, I'll remember that." she replied obediently and walked over to a large wardrobe, opening the heavy oak door to hang Lady Anna's newly purchased dress. She couldn't keep the longing out of her eyes as her hand grazed the velvet, silk and gauze materials, all in beautifully rich dyed fabrics. There was a time when she would have worn dresses like that. Tucked away at the side was a dark brown dress, it's rough fabric frayed through use, it hung limpy off of the hanger. It seemed out of place in a grand wardrobe and Gill unhooked it, spinning to face Anna.
"Is this yours m'lady?" she asked, just incase one of the unknowing maids had put it in the wardrobe by accident.
