Name: Eilis of the Forest (pronounced like Ell-eese)
Age: 18
Sex: Female
Class: Druidess
Appearance:
Slender and pale skinned with a long but not unattractive face, Eilis is a typical example of a pretty girl who doesn't care to act pretty in the least. Her blue eyes are intelligent and compliment her small upturned nose and full lips, but her complexion is often marred by smudges of dirt or small cuts and scratches from living amongst the forest, to say nothing of the smattering of freckles that cover her cheeks and nose. She may seem rather unrefined and woodsy upon first acquaintance, but there is an underlying grace and elegance in Eilis' movements that betray great breeding somewhere in her very distant past.
Due to the nature of Druids in general and Eilis in particular she gives little care for her appearance, her hair usually snagged with twigs, leaves and other forest debris. In winter she is found wearing a bizarre assortment of cloths sewn haphazardly together; in summer she can be glimpsed in short and airy tunics that tempt the borders of propriety (should she care for them). She is never without her bow and a small dagger she keeps well concealed on her person.
Played by Liv Tyler.
Character:
Growing up with the nature-loving ways of her people, EilÃs is very much part of the forest herself nowadays. Having been a peaceful but stubborn child in her youth, now that she is her own master she has become more determined and even arrogant at times. She cares for no man and his laws, living on equal terms with the forest and the creatures who dwell there with her. There is a distinctly mischievous side to the girl; one that she enjoys playing on from time to time. Recently, for example, she has taken to flitting amongst the trees and playing at being a wood-nymph in order to lead travellers astray or to distract a hunter from his target.
On the other side, Eilis is actually quite intelligent. Despite her low class and lack of formal education she's able to grasp difficult concepts in a rather short amount of time, and has a penchant for poetry (she has one very small and tattered poetry book given to her by her mother) and loves telling stories. She's quite compassionate at times, and is just as apt to help someone as to disrupt them.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
Strengths
- Determined
- Passionate
- Playful
- Resourceful
- Has a way with animals
- Good with healing remedies
Weaknesses
- Stubborn
- Can be arrogant
- Brash
- Overestimates her own abilities
Magical Abilities:
Because of her long kinship with the forest and its animals, Eilis is able to communicate with animals telepathically. She is also able to blur the edges of her person to allow her to slip through the forest more easily. This last ability was practised by her people in order to remain out of Uther Pendragon's reach. Aside from those two things, her knowledge in relation to magic is a bit limited and really only extends to scrying (which she has little patience for).
Weaponry Skills:
Extremely proficient with a bow. Moderately able to use a dagger, but prefers not to unless absolutely necessary.
Character History:
Eilis was born the only child to a very happy couple living amongst a small Druidic band in the forests of the kingdom. They moved from place to place regularly, attempting to keep one step ahead of Uther Pendragon and his war on magic. But they could not run forever. The simple, peace-loving folk were caught and punished by death under Uther's command, the only members spared being Eilis and another young girl Brione, who had been out gathering berries away from their encampment when their families had been taken.
Knowing enough to survive in the often harsh forest environment the girls moved on and nursed their grief as best they could. The acceptance of magic throughout the kingdom came as both a relief and an insult; their loved ones had died in vain yet they were now somewhat protected and could live their lives as they wished. The harsh weather of the winter just gone was particularly hard for the pair, with deep snow drifts and penetrating cold chilling even their most cunningly crafted hidey-holes. After a long-suffered infection Brione succumbed to illness and died, despite Eilis' attempts to heal her.
Now alone in the forest and intending to keep it that way, Eilis keeps a modest existence. She lives closer to Camelot, enjoying the snippets of human conversation she captures from her lofty spying positions in the treetops above the forest paths. Her magic is developing slowly but without anyone higher up to teach her she is at a loss as to how to progress. Enjoying a deep communion with the forest itself and enjoying the kind of sistership she has with the leafy trees that now seem to protect her, Eilis has taken on the crusade of protecting her beloved forest and it's inhabitants from those that would do them harm.
Additional Information:
Because of the length of time spent in the forest and apart from people not intimately connected with her, Eilis is very good with animals and the healing arts.
Sample Roleplay:
The forest pool was cool and soothing as it surrounded her. The summer days were only just beginning to swell with the heat they promised for the coming months, but she felt the warm touch of the sun a little too keenly after such a bad winter and mild spring. As she bathed, Eilis could feel her cares melting away, becoming little more than ripples in the surface of the clear water that held her as tenderly as a mother cradles a newborn babe. She felt so at home here amongst nature, living in harmony with her environment instead of hacking and burning it as other humans were like to do.
Her dark hair seemed quite black in the light of the sunset that filtered through the branches overhead, not quite meeting atop the clearing where the pool was situated. Floating on her back with her arms on either side of her Eilis imagined that she was flying through the sky. She's heard a long time ago that people with powerful magic were able to do just that! How she longed for such a thing, even if the thought of being so very strong with her talents did frighten her a little bit.
A sudden feeling that she was not alone startled her from her daydreams and she turned upright in the water with a brisk splash. The fact that she wasn't clothed was incentive enough to remain shrouded in the dim green depths of the water, and as her artic gaze travelled the shoreline of the pool she knew for certain that she was being watched. Narrowing her gaze and sinking a little deeper into the pool so that her hair clung to the tops of her shoulders and nothing more revealing, Eilis felt annoyed at having been interrupted during one of her favourite pastimes.
"I know you're there," she called in a steady voice. Her bow lay impotent with her clothes behind a bush on the far side of the pool, and she hoped that whoever was watching her hadn't found them or she might find herself in real trouble.
