Dreamer sat behind a desk in a cozy room at the top floor of the Magicians guild. Not many people traveled so far up,aside from the older mages, so he was left alone in a quiet environment. Although he had a book out in front of him, a paper aside to take notes, he could not seem to keep his mind on the subject at hand.
It was that boy, something about him kept taking his mind away from his work. The boy was ambitious, but conceded, and it bothered Dreamer that the boy seemed determined for power. If that boy did obtain power, what would he do with it? Power had a way with corrupting even the strongest of men, and paring it with the boys personality, Dreamer couldn't help feel he should keep a careful eye on him.
Of course, he wasn't making the situation any easier on himself. He had a rough morning, so he had deliberately toyed with the boy. He even went so far as to ask the boy to meet him after his enrollment, just to introduce himself as one of his superior's. It wasn't like Dreamer for do that, and he felt ashamed for it.
It wasn't like he could just walk away from the situation now, the boy was expected in the room shortly. Dreamer sighed and gave up on his work, tucking the paper inside his page and closing the book. He would pick up on it later, after he was done with the conversation to ensue.
The door had just opened

Chase couldn't believe it. That annoying little weirdo he had met was here in the top floor of the magicians guild. What was going on only the top level magicians were allowed up here? It was impossible that that shrimp was a mage here. Surely he was to young to have achieved that level. If it was an illusion then it wasn't one that simply deceived his eyes. He had been testing the walls with wind on the way here and was relatively sure that his wind had hit against something.
Chase paused before the door that supposedly was the entrance to the youth's room. He put on his arrogant look before entering. Whatever else he would enter with style. Not even bothering to knock Chase strode into the room.
Only to find an average looking room with a desk in the middle, and in the desk was the person who had initiated this meeting. The youth Chase had met earlier. He looked up from a book and noticed Chase.
"So," Chase said, "What do you want? Make it quick I am busy." Chase knew he was acting even more arrogant then usual but this guy was annoying. It didn't matter in the end Chase would crush him.

"Ah there you are!" Dreamer said, smiling at the boy who entered the room. Dreamer noticed the boys look of arrogance and his obvious lack of manners. Dreamer brushed them aside though, he had treated the by poorly earlier, he was right to get the wrong impression.
"First day and already busy, well i wont keep you for too long" Dreamer said. He removed himself from his seat and walked over to the boy, "I merely wanted to properly introduce myself, and hopefully have a pleasant conversation". After a moment he extended his hand to the boy, "My name is Dreamer, Magician's guild Mage".

Chase waited as the youth looked up and noticed him. The youth put on what was apparently supposed to be a friendly expression as commented on Chase's busy life. Why in the world did he care about that? All Chase wanted to do was go outside and train. The youth got up out of his seat and walked towards Chase while saying "My name is Dreamer, Magician's guild Mage"
Only Chases' years of training to keep his emotions from showing kept his mouth from falling open. As it was there was a serious crack in his façade. Surely it was impossible that this... This child! Was a full mage! How was it possible that this creepily pathetic person had achieved the very level that Chase himself was aiming for. This Dreamer child did not deserve that. Chase loathed him.
Chase ignored the outstretched hand to say "I will become stronger then you. I will become the strongest mage in the world and if you ever try to interfere I will crush you." Chase would teach this pathetic young star that Chase was the only true genius this guild needed.

"I will become stronger then you. I will become the strongest mage in the world and if you ever try to interfere I will crush you."
Dreamer chuckled, he couldn't help it, he just thought the boy was amusing. He let his hand drop, knowing they had lost the chance to be civil, and took a single step back. His face still had an amused smile, cause the boy was getting way over his head.
"Really boy, you should be more respectful to your fellow scholars, You have only been an recruit for at least a half an hour", Dreamer kept an amused tone to his voice. "...And i suggest you wait until you've actually learned something before you go off and make such a bold statement, especially in the presence of a Mage".
Dreamer might be amused by the boy, but even he couldn't help but admire the boys ambition. "Your years away from meeting the requirements to be the most powerful Mage, i believe my friend Merlin has already acquired that title". Dreamer watched carefully to the boys reactions at the mention of Merlin. Merlin himself was still young for his age, and he was already more than proficient in each of the magical arts.

Chase loathed Dreamer. It was becoming more and more obvious that he would never agree with Chase on anything. He appeared to think that just because he had reached the level of mage he was superior to Chase. Didn't he realize that the only reason he was higher was because he had joined first. Chase would surpass him once he too had some training.
"We had this discussion earlier" Chase reminded him "I am one of those special people who actually deserve it. While you are simply someone who just happens to have power. You don't deserve it. You simply use it to attempt to imitate those like me and Merlin. I am fine with admitting that Merlin is the strongest mage in the land. I am not a fool. He at least deserves his power."
As Chase spoke more and more angrily a small breeze emanated from him towards Dreamer. Any hope of reconciliation between the two of them was gone. Chase knew that from now on they would view each other as enemies.

Dreamer didn't twitch, he didn't bash an eyelash, instead he just stared at the boy in front of him. He didn't let his smile falter, he couldn't, his mind was too wrapped up into how to handle the situation. He knew he was growing closer to losing control, which was a bad thing for the boy, who stood there insulting him to his face.
He was angry at him, at Chase, for standing their and telling him he didn't deserve the position he had earned. Had he not spent many nights without food and sleep lost in his studies? Had he not spent his spare time trapped in a dusty old room, alone, practicing his Magics? At the same time, Had he not used his gifts to heal all those he could in the infirmary?
As these questions flooded his mind, memories of fellow scholars and mages sneering at him came to him. For What? was it his dedication? His Age? Or was it that fact that he was climbing the chain or power quicker than all of them? All of them resented him, all those who should have encouraged his growth and education, hated him.
And for the first time, he began to hate as well.
Dreamer's smile only began to widen as he looked down to the floor. He had made up his mind, he would ask the boy a question. His response would determine weather or not he would make it out the door in one piece. Dreamer slowly started to let his magic build as he spoke.
"You don't believe i'm special?" he asked, "You don't believe i worked for this? that i earned this?". Dreamer parted his hair as his magic started to become apparent in the room. It didn't manifest physically, not like chases, but it could be felt. He looked up at the boy, still smiling, and continued, "Your so much like everyone else, you judge those whom you deem unfit, when you yourself haven't proved yourself worthy".
"... There is only one person who makes the choice of advancing a student to the level of Mage, and that is only after a gruesome test, Merlin..."
Dreamer took a step forward, his power now apparent enough that it Chase should feel it. Against Chase's Magic, Dreamer's should have suffocating results on the boy, causing physical pain. Dreamer looked the boy straight in the eyes, his own being bright gold, one more so than the other. "..What makes you think that your any better than Merlin's judgment?".

Chase was furious. However it appeared that the Dreamer kid was even more furious then him. In fact it appeared that Dreamer had snapped. He was looking at Chase with a smile that was spreading. Chase was surprised at just how threatening Dreamer could look.
Magic started permeating the room as Dreamer gave a threatening speech about how Chase was just like everyone else. Chase winced as the magic started to burn his skin but refused to back down. Instead he started to vent more magic in an attempt to minimize the damage. No longer was the breeze aimed at Dreamer now it circled Chase reducing the pain. Although it still hurt.
"Worked for it?" Chase answered. "Your very words reveal your foolishness. True hard work helps but whether or not you can reach the level of a mage is determined at birth. It is destiny that decides what we will become. Just as it is my destiny to become greater then you. Merlin may have allowed you to become a mage but that doesn't mean you deserve it. Many who don't deserve it reach that rank. He only does it because otherwise there would be too few of that level in the guild."
Venting even more magic Chase continued on ignoring the magic induced tiredness and pain "Anyway you just cause you are stronger now doesn't mean that it will stay that way. I may be new but I will rise in power and when I surpass you everyone will realize just how pathetic you are."
Chase's loathing of Dreamer only increased the more time he spent with him. Also Chase knew that he had to leave soon he didn't have much more energy to put into his magic.

...everyone will realize just how pathetic you are...
The words rang in Dreamer's head as his memories kept bringing in pain to fuel his rage. The pain and turmoil he had gone threw, dedicating his life to the guild. He had finally arrived at a point that he could earn the respect he had been yearning for, and this child , was talking down to him.
Dreamer snapped for a split second, and that's all it took.
Dreamer's rage had been boiled up until he could take it no longer, his raw magic descended upon Chase's foolish attempt to protect himself. He made a brave attempt, but Dreamer's magic far surpassed his untrained gift. Chase's magic now shattered, Dreamer found himself now beginning to sing a spell.
"Its power you want shall i let it free If its power you want Its power you shall..."
Thud!
Dreamer snapped back into reality as an alien noise came from behind. Unconcerned by it, Dreamer looked at Chase and then tried recalling what he had done. He took a step back, then another, and another, shocked at his own outburst. Dreamer had never lost such control, he could have killed the boy.
Shaking his head, Dreamer walked back to the desk and removed a sheet of paper. Taking a feather and dipping it in some ink that had turned over and spilled over the desk, he wrote down some words. Then he went over to Chase and shoved it into him, "You may not like me Chase, but i am still your superior, and as such i am too look out for your well being...this is a note for the White Mages, take it and get some rest".
With that, Dreamer left the room, not caring about any last remarks that chase were to make.If he could make any, that is. Knowing Chase though, his pride damaged, he would have alot to say to Dreamer.

Chase watched as Dreamer snapped. A giant whirlwind of magic destroyed Chase's feeble resistance. He heard the thundering of Dreamers voice and then collapsed to the floor barely conscious. He watched as Dreamer wrote something on a paper saying that he was Chase's superior and thus wouldn't hurt him. Dreamer left the without another word.
Through his haze of pain Chase realized why. They had gone beyond the phase where talking could change anything. From now on only total defeat of the other would satisfy their hate.
Chase fell into the blackness of unconsciousness.
