The dappled gray gelding trotted happily along the forest path. There was a very light breeze running through the leaves and playing with Branowen's red hair as though it had fingers. Letting her eyes wonder around she spotted a very nice tree jutting from the hard soil of a hill. The Irish woman directed her horse with a slight tug on the reins toward the aforementioned tree. A few moments later rider and horse found themselves under the tree.
Summer was in full swing and every tree was covered in bright green leaves. The forest spent most of the day glowing with rays of sun that danced between the leaves and branches forming intricate and decorative designs on the earth. Despite the bright sun and its bright light the weather wasn't boiling like one might expect, with the breeze and shade the land brought comforting warmth.
The days were slowly getting longer as well, and for the Irish woman it was becoming evident. The days stretched on and there was either little to do or too much to do. When there was too little to do she would often found herself doing menial tasks over and over again or wondering around in search of something. She'd even drawn some of her siblings and random people into her boredom by including them in her jobs and conversations in hope of amusement. On the days when there was to much to do, like the past few days, she found herself tense and wishing forever for the day to end. Tasks seemed to take much longer to do and jobs piled up. She'd eat sleep and breath work, going to sleep thinking about her jobs and getting up the following morning to a mountain of tasks. She'd found herself so stressed and tired that she'd been more clumsy than usual. People had finally grown tired of her clumsiness and given her the rest of the week off, telling her to come back when her head wasn't so far in the sky.
Dismounting the gelding Branowen turned and took off her bag dropping it on the ground and unsaddling her house. When that was done the horse turned and nudged his owner who giggled and patted his nose. Resting her forehead against his for a moment she murmured praises to her animal companion. Taking off his bridal she ushered him toward a lush piece of grass. Once he was happily munching she searched in her bag pulling out a very, very large book. Smiling she turned to the tree and giggled. If Conall was here he'd scold me for sure. Her voice was light with an Irish air when she spoke, evidence of her stubbornness as she'd refused to loose her accent like many of her siblings had. Moving to the base of the tree Branowen slipped off her shoes and started to climb, up and up she went until she found the perfect place in a branch her feet and the bottom of her red dress the only things viewable from the path besides her horse and tack. Settling down in her wooden seat Branowen opened her thick book and started to read, humming a light tune as she did so. It was just what she'd needed and she was planning on making the most of the welcoming break from her duties.

Chase had gone out to the forest to practice his teleporting. He wanted to get it more even more precise then it already was. So he had decided to try teleporting from one tree to the next. That way he had to be incredibly precise to land correctly.
It was one his third tree that Chase made a mistake and slipped off the branch. He fell a couple of feet instinctivly grabbing the first thing he felt before yelling "De" and bringing himself to a halt. It took him a couple of seconds to realize that he was holding a book in his right hand. He had accidentally grabbed it while he was falling.
He looked around for the book's owner and saw her a couple of feet above him in the tree. He flew up to be level with her handing the book back as he said, "This book is awful. There is nothing of value in it. Believe me I have read it. Its just a bunch of extraneous philosophy and useless history" It was true too, Chase thought. The book had been praised by all his tutors but he himself had hated it.
Chase waited for her to take the book back so he could leave. Why was he even talking to the girl. She was just another annoying person who thought she was special because she could read.

Branowen had only been reading for a few moments when someone fell from the tree grabbing the book out of her hand as he did so. The red haired girl had been so engrossed in her book and thinking about it's subject that it had actually taken her moment to process that it had been taken out of her hand. She was pulled from her thoughts by the boy yelling a spell to stop him from falling. Her gaze turned quickly to the fallen boy in shock wondering why he'd come from in the first place, she hadn't seen anyone in the tree when she first climbed into the large tree. Realization hitting her she leaned forward to see if he was alright. The book didn't matter to her as much as a person did, a book could easily be replaced while a person couldn't. Seeing the boy on the ground she was about to call out to see if he was okay but got slightly distracted by the book in his hands. Her breath hitched and she wondered if the book was okay, seeing as the boy was moving and seemed in good health.
Thinking back she thought of how the boy had caught himself. She realized he's used magic and momentarily entranced by the fact. She hoped that she might be able to do that one day as well. Though, the first step would be to get into the magicians guild which she had been putting off for a few years now. When the boy held the book out to her she took it back with a large smile, nodding her thanks. Holding it at eye level and examining the outside checking for any breaks or tears in the bindings or cover.
"This book is awful. There is nothing of value in it. Believe me I have read it. Its just a bunch of extraneous philosophy and useless history" Branowen lowered the book from her eyes, a pleasant smile still on her lips. She placed the book in her lap and ran her hand over the cover brushing some stray specks of dirt off it and returning it to its otherwise impeccable condition. It may be full of that, but I'm not necessarily reading it for its knowledge. I just like to read! It was the first thing I found when I was leaving and decided to take it out here and look at it. I think its incredibly interesting to see peoples opinions and views on subjects. Laughing the optimistic teen turned to her male companion and brushed her hair out of her face, ignoring the few twigs and leaves in it from her climb and held out her hand.
I suppose I should introduce myself. My name's Branowen O'Floinn! She gave a wide and cheerful smile, her voice light with her Irish accent. She wasn't exactly giving the best and most lady-like introduction. With leaves and twigs in her vibrant red hair, dirt and mud on her cheek and clothes she was happily swinging her bare feet which were also covered in earth from her climb and not to mention the charming fact that the Irish girl had climbed the tree in a dress something greatly frowned upon, she wasn't exactly making the best first impression. But it didn't deter the optimistic girl who happily waited for the boy's response.

Chase listened in disbelieve at the girls foolishness. Why would she purposely waste her time on something so boring. If she was going to read then she should do so for knowledge. That was the whole point of reading.
"The only reason to hear someone else's opinion on something is to have a chance to persuade them to your point of view. The man who wrote that book died years ago so you won't be able to argue fully with him. Not only that but most of the concepts in that book are outdated so it won't even help you understand an opponents point of view. There are so many better things you could be reading or doing" It annoyed him how many people wasted their lives. So few people understood how the world worked. They simply tried to float on by instead of actually trying for things. Chase doubted she would ever understand though. After all it took genuis just as much as hard work to make it. Luckily Chase had both
So her name was Branowen well he had to give her his name now as well. How annoying, "I am Chase Caldera and you really should try to do something at least a little constructive." Chase waited for the girls reply hoping that the conversation would end soon so he could get back to training.

Apparently the boy thought her foolish because he simply couldn't see the point in reading just to have read something, or to see someone's point of view regardless of weather they are alive or not. "The only reason to hear someone else's opinion on something is to have a chance to persuade them to your point of view. The man who wrote that book died years ago so you won't be able to argue fully with him. Not only that but most of the concepts in that book are outdated so it won't even help you understand an opponents point of view. There are so many better things you could be reading or doing" Sighing she rolled her eyes though her smile didn't drop. Some people were just so depressing to be around and with his so far negative attitude it was appearing this boy was one of them.
Collecting her thoughts she turned her greyish hazel eyes to her temporary companion and spoke again.I know the concepts are out dated but at the time the book was written they were at the top of their study. I may not be able to argue the points with the author but I can value then for what they were worth at the time and have a better understanding of modern ideas that were founded from the concept.Branowen wasn't the type of person who needed to have a reason to read. Ever since she'd learnt to read it was all anyone could do to tear her away from any book. She could be reading the best book in all the land or the driest, it didn't matter she tore though book as though it was water and she'd been wandering the desert for years.
After her introduction she listened with rapt attention to his name though it didn't stay in her hear for longer then a few moments before it was forgotten. Thus is the curse of a forgetful, imaginative and optimistic eighteen year old. "I am Chase Caldera and you really should try to do something at least a little constructive." Rolling her eyes and giggling Branowen spoke again. I've been trying to do productive things al week but work at the library has been really busy and stressing so I've been tired and my work has slipped a little. I ended up having the rest of the day off to collect myself so I can run at full speed when I get back to work! But enough about work what are you going out here? She leaned forward slightly to look though the tree and then above her after it donned on her that Chase had fallen out of no where. Um… Where did you come from anyway? I didn't see you in the top of the tree when I climbed up here and I doubt people just fall from the sky. Cheerful and curious eyes turned to look at the other teen as she ran a hand through her vibrant hair dislodging a twig that was tangled in the long locks.

Chase listened to the girls argument for why she should read the book with a little bit of scepticism. While she spoke he formulated his argument against her. "True you may be able some useful knowledge of how modern idea's progressed into what they are today. But wouldn't it be more useful to know why the became what they are? What I mean is dive into the underlying factors of the current laws and see why they were really made and changed. Although more often then not they were made to because someone in the aristocracy got greedy and needed the law changed."
Chase felt quite proud of his speech, not only had he managed to put together a comprehensive argument but it also directly showed how he thought. Well he supposed he hadn't had years of training and tutors for nothing. Now he wondered how she would respond.
Chase listened as the girl spoke of how she had worked herself too hard at the library. He highly doubted that. He himself had been training constantly for a week and still felt fine. It wasn't as if a library job required much physical work. She was probably just one of those weaklings who fell apart at the slightest physical effort. he decided not to broach the topic though since she would probably just get mad at him.
"I am here because I was practising my teleporting and I slipped off a branch. In case you didn't notice I am a mage." Chase spoke in a voice that wasn't exactly condescending but definatly said that he thought it was foolish of her not to guess what had happened.

Even when she was talking Branowen could see the boy calculating his argument against her. Once she was done speaking the boy seemed to jump on his own argument. "True you may be able some useful knowledge of how modern idea's progressed into what they are today. But wouldn't it be more useful to know why they became what they are? What I mean is dive into the underlying factors of the current laws and see why they were really made and changed. Although more often then not they were made to because someone in the aristocracy got greedy and needed the law changed." Looking at her companion she mulled over his words before responding. I see what you mean, Her words were slow and deliberate as she was still thinking of the words to follow. By understanding why something was changed I will have a greater understanding of the laws and ideas themselves. She nodded and looked at the books in her hands and then turned back to him and continued. Could that principal also be applied in viewing the law or idea that was changed though? By having a greater knowledge on that one would be able to understand what was being changed and calculate with the knowledge of why they changed by looking at the history of the time, and of the situations surrounding its change. She tunred at his companion and spoke her final conclusion on what she'd previously spoke. So after I am done this book, to have a greater understanding of the philosophies and ideas I should read a book about the history of the time and learn about the aristocracy and situation of the area and its people? It was a question that she left hanging in the air as she stared questioningly at her male companion wondering if she had comprehended what he had said, it may have been her mind jumping ahead of itself and assuming or twisting his view to something that she though would work.
"I am here because I was practising my teleporting and I slipped off a branch. In case you didn't notice I am a mage." Branowen had an inkling that the other teen was talking down on her. She was just trying have a pleasant conversation with he but she got the feeling he though she was an idiot. Rolling her eyes for what was certainly not going to be the last time during her encounter with the male youth the Irish girl spoke. Yes, I understood that you were a mage but you don't exactly see lots of people going teleporting through trees on a regular basis. I was unsure magical folks could even teleport until you told me. I haven't exactly run into many magicians in my time here in Camelot, be it the few years that its been. She let go of the book momentarily to straighten her dress but the heavy book slid off her lap and in her quick movement to catch it she slipped off the large tree branch. Falling she caught the book and hit a large pile of soft grass and earth using her body to prevent any damage from the book.
No worse for wear excusing dirt on her clothes and face and a few more leaves and twigs in her hair Branowen blinked and spoke. Opps, well at least it didn't hurt as much as my fall yesterday. I never knew stone was that hard… Her mind wondered to the incident where she'd been climbing the shelf to put a book away and someone had called to out to her scaring her and causing her to fall from quite a high height and land in the most undignified position, on her rear. Why did all the frequently used books seem to be placed on the top shelf? And why did the shelves have to be so high? At five feet exactly the who world seemed tall to Branowen, and with that though her eyes glazed over and her mind wondered off the boy somewhat forgotten in her imaginative mind.

Chase continued listening to the girls argument. He supposed that for a commoner her argument wasn't bad. However he still disagreed with her. It made little practical difference how the law had used to be. The important part was why it was the way it was today. However he knew that arguing that point wouldn't be enough.
"Look at it this way. You only have so much time in your life so you should try to spend it in the most productive way possible. Since you are obviously never going to get involved with the law wouldn't it be wiser to try to focus on something more productive instead of small connections in outdated ideas?" After speaking this Chase decided that even if the girl didn't believe him he would not bothering arguing it out with her. At the very least she understood most of what he meant.
Well she apparently hadn't thought much about magic. It wasn't exactly secret information that several of the top mages could teleport. Suddenly she slipped out of the tree and started falling towards the ground. Chase considered catching her but decided against it. Why bother.
When she landed and didn't immediately look up at him Chase took the opportunity to leave by teleporting away. Now he needed to get back to training.
