For a time the people of Camelot have seen relative peace under the rule of King Uther Pendragon, who has recently accepted the presence of magic in his realm. In honour of this, a Guild for Magicians has been created alongside the Royal Army, in which existent and new magicians are trained to control their powers and to serve their monarch. His son and heir, the occasionally proud but good-hearted, Prince Arthur Pendragon looks over the Royal Army, creating a band of loyal warriors and knights to protect and serve Camelot. His accident-prone servant and powerful magician Merlin, oversees the Magicians' Guild, alongside several elder mages.
Recently, after a successful harvest in Camelot, the weather about the realm turned more erratic, with numerous storms, powerful winds and unexpected bouts of freezing cold temperatures well before the onset of winter. These conditions have led to a failed harvest in several neighboring kingdoms, such as Gore, who look to Camelot's acceptance of magic as the reason for this. King Urien of Gore believes Uther is using the newfound power of his magicians to weaken the surrounding kingdoms and ultimately gain power, or that it is his lax attitude towards magicians has led to these disturbances. He has sent his daughter the beautiful Lady Sophia [Canon] to Camelot castle in an attempt to woo Prince Arthur, and gain some control over Camelot. Before rashly declaring an outright war, King Urien has put to use the efforts of the Brotherhood, a secret sect of thieves, assassins and dark magicians whose services can be bought against the Pendragons, in a series of minor attacks.
The real reason for all of these weather disturbances? It is magic, but not of a human kind. Whisperings of Dragon magic are fast spreading throughout the people.
Despite all this, medieval life goes on. Nobles flock to Camelot court to mingle in the upper class society, merchant's trade goods, and the magical druids live a peaceful gypsy life-style in the surrounding forests. What role will you play? Royal or Noble at court? Chivalrous Knight or potent Mage for Camelot? Merchant, Peasant or Low struggling to make a living? Peaceful Druid of the forest, or Brotherhood recruit, out to cause trouble? _ _ _ Please note: First and foremost we are a medieval RPG. However we are loosely based on BBC's adaption of the Arthurian Legend's: 'Merlin'(More information can be found at www.bbc.co.uk/merlin/ ) It is very important to note that this is not just a fan-site for the show and only the basic elements have been encompassed. The land is ruled by King Uther, and his son and heir, Prince Arthur, is the same young age as his friend, servant and wizard, Merlin. Magic is not forbidden in this RPG! All of the plots and story lines created on this site will not be based on the show (unless of course you want them to be!) You do not need to have seen the show to RP in this site. (And many of our members have not.) If you have any questions about the site, storyline or it's basis on the show then please PM me, or any other member of staff and we'll be happy to help. Welcome to Camelot, and happy RPing Regards, The Admin Team

Uther does love a good feast, and as the festive season is upon us, yet another lavish spread has been cooked up for the inhabitants of the castle. All of the Lords and Ladies of Camelot, nobles residing in the castle, knights and mages of the Guild and Army are invited. There is a lot of meat, cheese and wine on offer, and the dining hall has been especially decorated for the occasion. The majority of the servants have been called upon to fetch and carry plates, pour wine and cook and clean in the kitchens.
All of the nobles are dressed in their finest, for after the feast the dining hall is cleared to make room for a dancing floor and a lively band is set up.

Accepted Nellie, a very interesting character history. You may be a barmaid in the Black Bear, but that tavern is for brotherhood members and their associates, so perhaps your character would be better suited working at the other tavern in town- the Ram? (We don't have a barmaid there yet and we already have one at the Black Bear) Welcome to the site!

Apologies to everyone for the delay in getting the results out to you! Sadly, due to illness, lack of internet and lots of work admin have been extreeeeeemely busy (not to mention the fact that the competition was so hard to judge!) and have not had the time to decide who wins. We have finally come to a decision though and the results are over in the original thread.... Here! Everyone did fantastically and look out for similar competitions in the future! I would also just like to let everyone know that the busy time is (hopefully) over and we will soon be changing the season to winter and uploading our "members of the month"

Uther watched proudly as the competitors each took a turn at shooting the targets lined up on the field. They all did remarkably well, save for Arthur who made quite a fool of himself.
The King stood up and announced the results."My friends, you have all shown me a great talent lies here within Camelot. Unfortunately and due to the unfortunate circumstances which meant two members had to pull out, only two competitors will be going through to the final round. The competitors continuing on to the next round are Agron Esa and Richard Cabal."
Agron and Richard please now post another post (up to 1000 words long) describing 3 final arrows. Admin will then choose the winner!

Well done to everyone who entered the competition, we were really impressed with all the entries because they were all very good- which made it really difficult to pick a winner! Still, it had to be done, and the winner is... *dramatic pause*
Grace's Lancelot! Well done Grace We liked a lot of your entries. However each admin also picked a signature that we highly commend: Arthur: Lilith's Gwen Merlin: Richard's Gwen Karma will be coming your way! Well done again to everyone! Big Love, M&A X

In honour of the recent Knighthood of Sir Agron Esa, a feast is being held. As head of the Magicians Guild and Royal Army, Merlin Emrys and Prince Arthur Pendragon are in attendance, alongside King Uther, his ward Morgana Le Fey and her servant Gwen, and, at the request of Sir Agron, Tristan De Braose.Unusually, servants are permitted at the feast because of the nature of Merlin's position in the Guild.

The Goat and Boot is the only pub in Ealdor and is frequented by many of the villagers. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and there is nearly always a few elderly men drunk in the corner.

This thread will be updated as the plot changes and the site progresses
As you may well know, the site is vaguely based on the show Merlin. Therefore some canon characters and places are used in the site, but we also have many original places and characters.
Is Magic Allowed? Yes. King Uther does allow magic in the realm. This is due to Arthurs life being saved by magic, and Uther realising that Merlin had magic and finally understanding (albeit somewhat reluctantly) that magic has a place.(this event is not on the site, it is simply a backstory that allows us to use magic and to make the site mroe interesting to RP in!) This led to the construction of the Magicians Guild. All magicians have to train here, so that Uther is satisfied that they are loyal to the Kingdom of Camelot, just like the army. Magic and the guild are commonly known of by the people of Camelot, although many do not fully understand how either work.
What Is The Brotherhood? Life in the Slums is hard. People struggle to eat and live. The brotherhood is an organization created from the rebels and most desperate Lows living in the slums. Some members want to overthrow the Pendragons and claim the city for themselves, others just use it as a way to make money for themselves through organised crime. Not all Lows are members of The Brotherhood Although most Lows do not share a great love for the Royal family, most do not want to overthrow them, they simply want equality.
What do people know about The Brotherhood? At the moment, The Brotherhood is only a rumour passed around by gossip. People have only heard that a group of rebels from the slums has started stealing from and attacking those in the city- The name "The Brotherhood" is not common knowledge. Some Lows are aware of the group as family/friends are members, but due to a general dislike of the Pendragons, the truth is not told to anyone outside the Slums. Crime and trouble is common in the Slums, so any Brotherhood activity there is not recorded or noticed.

Accepted! Having Asketel as a prince should be fine, he would hold no bearing in Camelot- law wise, but that isn't to say he might not think so... We will class you as "Nobility" and have the title as "Prince of The Northern Black Mountains"
Welcome to Camelot!

Now that the sign up thread is closed, it is time to start the tournament! In the centre of the castle grounds, an area has been cordoned off for Camelot's archery tournament. A row of targets is set up 50 yards away, another at 65 yards and a final row at 77. Each participant will have to fire one arrow at each row, aiming of course for the centre ring. ParticipantsArthur Pendragon (will not be judged) Selena Fireheart Casalynn Laymont Richard Cabal Lady Morgana Le Fey Evie Perroy Selphia Dek Agron Esa Rules Each participant must now write a maximum of 500 words describing their turn in the competition-involving three seperate arrows. You can choose to do well, extremely badly or anything inbetween.
The winner will be chosen by admin and will not depend on how well you scored in-character. It will be judged purely on writing skill- so you can choose to have your character shoot themselves if you so wished!
This thread will be open for a week, and we (as Admin) will then choose the 3 most impressive posts. These 3 characters will then compete in a final round, which will be open for a few days (or until everyone has posted). The winner will then be picked!
Let us know if you have any questions. Let the arrows fly!

Uther's guard briefly glanced at the names written on the parchment before removing it and rolling it tightly in his fist. The King would be pleased.
*Information on the Archery competition to follow. The thread will open either tonight or tomorrow.*
