Dante took a moment to comprehend what she was saying. She had lost the egg. The thing that he and Henry had risked everything to obtain, was now gone. At first he was upset then he became angry. How could she just loose something so valuable? He and Henry had planned to sell it and use it to finance themselves for a year, they wouldn't even have to steal food to eat. Now they were back to square one, dirt poor with nothing to gain wealth.
He spoke slowly, trying to control himself. "How...How did you loose it?"

"I was at the castle..." Evie faltered and left the sentence hanging. How could she explain to him that she was a member of the army? An institution headed by the man Dante hated most. It was unforgivable. In that moment she decided that if she had to pick between Dante and the army, Dante would win everytime. "Prince Arthur has it," she began, reluctantly, "He stopped me... and questioned me. I didn't say anything about you or Henry, of course, I lied about how I'd come about it, but... Dante I'm so sorry."
She wondered if the revelation that the egg was in Arthur's possession would be enough to distract Dante from asking why she was at the Castle in the first place. Evie didn't want to have to lie. "I'm so sorry..." she repeated, reaching out to take his hand in both of hers.

Arthur! That bastard! Dante's rage swiftly shifted from Evie to his enemy. He snatched his hand back from her and quickly stood up. He cursed and paced back and forth a couple of times. If Arthur had it, he could get it back. He quickly forgot his promise to a fair fight and began formulating a plan to assassinate him, properly this time, and steal the egg back in one swift move. And what was more he would make him suffer for so much a looking at Evie.
He wordlessly checked that his blades were securely strapped to his sides and began walking away from Evie, questions swimming through his head. Like what was she doing at the castle, why did she run into Arthur, did he know that she was connected to him? Those thoughts could wait for another time. "I'll be back." He said as he walked past Evie.

Evie swivelled in her sitting position to watch Dante as he stood and moved away. She was hurt when he pulled away from her- but of course she deserved it. It was when she saw him check his blades she scrambled to her feet. Dante was angry, and Evie didn't want him to do anything he might regret.
"Dante, wait!" she ran after him and stood in his path, grabbing his arm and stopping him from moving. "Look, I made a mistake. A big mistake, and I'm so sorry. We can try and get the egg back, but not now..." Her shoulders dropped, she hated to see Dante this mad and she didn't want him to get into any unnecessary fights. "I know you're angry with Arthur, of course you are, but it was my fault. Take it out on me, you can hit me if it'll make you feel better.' She turned her face to the side and let go of his arm.
"Go on, I deserve it!"

Dante considered just pushing past Evie when she stood to stop him. His face was set in a hard frown and his jaw was set, ready for a fight. He exhaled heavily as Evie stopped him and began to speak. He growled, he wanted nothing more right now than to kill the Pendragon. Take it out on me... Dante suddenly felt his anger begin to cool. As she turned away he sighed. He knew he couldn't strike Evie, he didn't have it in him.
Instead he put his anger behind him and gently kissed her exposed cheek. "I love you too much for that." He said in a quiet voice.

Evie squeezed her eyes closed in anticipation... waiting for the blow or further harsh words. Nothing. She breathed a quiet sigh of relief when she instead felt a kiss on her cheek. Turning her head to face Dante, a small relieved smile crossing Evie's lips. She knew he had forgiven her too easily, and realised it was more than she deserved. Her words that followed were sincere.
"I really am sorry, and I'll tell Henry it's all my fault... I'll...I'll help you get it back, and I'll make it up to him, I promise." she slid her arms through Dante's and wrapped them around his waist. Then stretching up slightly, on tiptoes, she touched her nose lightly to his, "But for now, let me make it up to you..." she said with a smile, tentatively leaning back from him and raising an eyebrow suggestively.

Dante smiled slightly. "Well, give him free drinks at the Bear and I think that all will be forgiven." He put his arms around Evie and smiled.
His smile widened at her proposition. "Well, if you feel that you must..." He teased and kissed her gently. "But if you were thinking about here then you're out of your mind, its far too cold for that." He said and laughed slightly. "So, your home or mine?" He asked and began to walk out of the field, Evie's hand in his.

"Free drinks? That sounds like something I can manage." Evie replied with a grin, glad that Dante's mood had lightened to a joking one. She had a feeling that Henry would still be angry, but perhaps he wouldn't mind as much anymore. Dante had told her about Henry's girl they had rescued from the woods. Maybe his concerns will be focused on her instead of the stolen egg.
She shied away laughing as Dante kissed her; his stubble rubbing instead against her cheek. "Far too cold?" she questioned, pretending to be shocked, "One of the strongest assassin's in Camelot can't handle a bit of cold?" Evie allowed her hand to be taken in his, and squeezed it tightly, looking up at him with her face positively glowing. "Yours." she replied, "I haven't been there before..."
-end.
