Gill smiled serenely as a string of concerned questions left Henry's lips. It had taken a shock to do it, but she seemed to have broken through his distant exterior. He cares if I'm ok! she thought contentedly to herself. He suddenly fell silent, somewhow managing to tangle himself in her skirts, and falling completely on top of her.
It may have been that Gill was still dizzy from the fall and wasn't thinking straight, but with Henry being in such close proximity she lost all sense of restraint. All the mixed feelings she had felt throughout their previous meetings came to a head, and instead of letting him scramble off of her with muttered apologies, she pulled him in closer, whispering playfully, "My head feels a lot better now..." and kissed him.
Her lips had barely touched his when a loud voice cried: "Get your hands off of her!" alongside the unmistakable sound of grating metal as a sword was drawn. Gill pulled away filled with dread. She couldn't imagine what this must look like to an onlooker. She couldn't even pull away successfully with Henry on top of her, and all of her protests were muffled in Henry's clothes. One thought whirred in her head. She was allowed to be here, Henry wasn't. And it was all her fault.

Henry scrambled madly away from Gill as she leaned in and kissed him. He had been beginning to feel at ease around her, but this, this was too close for comfort. He didn't want to be trusted by her and he certainly didn't want to trust her either.
As he tried hurriedly to get away from her, someone else had appeared on the scene. A flash of silver in the corner of his eye alerted Henry to Arthur's presence and he stopped dead, still caught up in a tangle of arms and legs.
"I-I-" Henry stuttered, looking down at the floored Gill and at his hands, which lay on her legs. In a final rush, he stood up and backed away, holding his arms out to try and explain his innocence. "I didnt...I never..." He trailed off, looking from Gill to Arthur and back again. Hoping for the ground to swallow him whole.
He may have been a Low but Henry would never have harmed anybody who didn't in his opinion deserve it. Henry was noble as he could be and although he had to steal and sometimes fight in order to stay alive, he had never ruthlessly attacked or harassed anybody. The idea of doing anything like that disgusted and horrified him, and to be accused? Even worse.
He didn't know what the punishment would be for being in the orchard, but it was bound to be better than the punishment for abuse.
"Gill?" He pleaded.

"I didnt...I never..."
Henry's words sounded oddly distant as she scrambled to her feet. This must be a dream, this cannot be happening: It wasn't just any old castle guard standing infront of them, Gill suddenly realised, it was Arthur, Prince of Camelot. Her mouth opened in shock, but no words came out.
"Gill?"
As she heard her name spoken with such a tone of pleading, it brought her back to the present and her mouth jolted into action, her brain a few steps behind. She moved protectively to stand infront of Henry, Arthur's sword pointed at her chest now.
"Your Highness!" she dropped into a clumsy curtsy, wincing at the pain in her legs. "Please, he wasn't hurting me, he was helping me I swear." She knew that she still needed to explain her disheveled appearance and why she was even in the Orchard in the first place, so continued:
"I...I'm a maid here, the castle I mean..." her words came fast and jumbled, realising the state she must look, she ran a hand through her mane of hair with both hands so the Prince believed she did actually work at the Castle and wasn't just some street wench. "And we came here to watch the, the sunset, then I, I fell" she half turned indicating the tree behind them, "and he was just helping me, please your highness, it's the truth I promise. We're friends and I fell."
Gill's chest rose and fell heavily, she couldn't believe this was actually happening. The Prince! She swallowed loudly, her mouth dry, and waited for one of the men either side of her to speak.

Arthur listened to the girl as she relayed the story of what had happened so far. Something in the way she explained the story told Arthur that there was at least some truth in it, she certainly looked the part of a maid for example. But he also couldnt help but wonder what had brought her to become friends with a disgusting Low.
"Fell?" He asked, sword still pointed at the girls chest. As he realised, he brought it down lower but kept in unsheathed and ready, just in case. "You fell out of a tree, when you were just watching the sunset?" Arthur frowned. "You don't have to lie, you're safe now." He made a move to grab at the boy, but he avoided Arthur hands easily.
"It's the truth I promise. We're friends and I fell." The girl spoke again. Arthur looked her directly in the eye. "Friends? If that's true, then you can tell me his name can't you?" Arthur smirked. He was not about to let a Low get away from him. He was going to serve his punishment.

"Friends? If that's true, then you can tell me his name can't you?"
This question from the Prince was completely unexpected and Gill made the mistake of faltering. In hindsight, she could have made up any name and the boy with her would have corroborated what she said to save his own skin.
"I...I..." she threw Henry a glance, her pale face turning red. "Look, I don't know his name, your highness, but, he saved my life..." She was glad that Arthur had lowered his sword and so stepped backwards alongside Henry instead of in front of him. She was scared, and instinctively wanted to reach out and hold Henry's hand for reassurance, but instead her hands stayed frozen by her sides, clenched.

Arthur was torn. He didn't believe that all Lows were bad, but the situation he had stumbled upon said that this boy was, and he knew he couldn't let that slide. Plus, even if the boy was innocent (as far as assualt went) he was still on royal turf, and it was off limits to anyone who wasnt a Pendragon or in their employment.
"I would hazard a guess that he was also the one endangering your life, whether you realised or not." Arthur frowned, and waved the point of his sword around aimlessly, a habit of his when he was thinking. "But i can't see any reason for you to lie about this, for you know would be safe in my presence..." He was never one to be modest, even in these situations. He paused for a second, to gather his thoughts and then continued, "However, you are both still trespassing on royal turf and while you" He pointed at Gill, "Are on the castles wage, he is not." He smirked a little, proud of what he was about to do next, even if it did strike a chord which was not completely in tune with his morals.
"You boy, are under arrest. For trespassing on the Kings land. You will be thrown into gaol for the night and you will then spend three days in the stocks." He grabbed Henry by the hands and pressed his arms easily into a position that he couldnt break out of, before marching him back to the castle dungeons.

Henry felt bad. None of this was Gills fault, but her red flushed face suggested she felt that it was. Arthur was tricking her, he could see it a mile off and his blood boiled, this was exactly[/] why he detested the Pendragons and all the other nobles that infested the city. They took the facts and twisted them into something completely different just so they could get what they wanted.
He was pleased to see that Arthur dropped his sword when he realised it was pointed directly at Gill, at he least he had some shred of chivalry no matter how corrupt it might be. He knew that whatever Gill or himself might say, Arthur Pendragon was never going to let them go free.
"I would hazard a guess that he was also the one endangering your life, whether you realised or not." Arthur said, waving his sword around. Henry couldn't help but notice how distracted he seemed, if he had been armed with more than his knives he could have easily attacked him. "Nothing happened!" Henry shouted in reply, surprising even himself and instantly regretting it.
"You boy, are under arrest" He grinned darkly, grabbing Henry and twisting him into a very painful arm lock. Henry knew better than to complain about the pain, and he did nothing but give Gill an apologetic smile. He didn't want her to think that he blamed her, because he could never.
"I accept your charge." Henry muttered as Arthur forced him to walk away from the orchard, leaving a very shocked Gill and a lonely shoe behind.

"You boy, are under arrest. For trespassing on the Kings land. You will be thrown into gaol for the night and you will then spend three days in the stocks."
Gill gasped as the Prince placed Henry under arrest. At least it was only for trespassing and not for the crime of attacking her. But it was still her fault for acting on impulse and taking Henry to the orchard with her in the first place. What made it worse was that she was getting away scott free because she worked in at the palace.
"I accept your charge." the boy muttered quietly, and allowed himself to be manhandled away by the Prince. Gill stepped forwards, she knew she wasn't strong enough to pull Henry away and didn't want to do anything that might anger the Prince further. She wanted to call out Henry's name, or apologise. But she didn't know his name. And apologies would mean nothing.
She ran after them a few steps, managing to whisper "I'll come to you in the dungeons." quietly so Arthur wouldn't hear. Then she was left standing rooted to the spot as Arthur roughly pulled the boy away. Gill clutched the shoe to her chest and bit back tears that threatened to spill; then she slowly walked back toward the castle.

Post by Lady Morgana le Fey on Nov 24, 2009 16:02:00 GMT
Morgana had nothing that was required of her this day, which was probably a good thing as her morning had come rather early this morning and her mind was in a bit of a haze. After her brief conversation with Arthur on the castle walls she had decided to go through with the decision to go for a walk. Although there was nothing major that required her presences, by the time she was able to get away for the walk it was early afternoon and although the sun was out in full force, there was a slight breeze. She wrapped one of her more simpler cloaks around her shoulder simply to keep the chill off her back and shoulders, then headed out to the orchard.
Morgana had offered, not ordered, Gwen the chance to come with her- the two girls needed some time together other than lady and servant, but Gwen had politely refused saying that there were things she needed to get done. Of course she could have ordered the girl's company, but then wondered if there would have been resentment on Gwen's part and she couldn't bear that thought so here she was wandering the orchard alone. It was beautiful- all the trees were taking on the autumn colouring- reds, oranges, yellows and there was fruit on the trees that hadn't been fully harvested yet.

Post by Selena Fireheart on Dec 5, 2009 20:03:23 GMT
Morning came bringing the dawn of a new day to Camelot. But it was not a good day for young Selena, today was the anniversary when her father was killed. With a gentle sigh she exited the servants quarters and immediatly headed towards the Orchards, she knew that she had a long day ahead filled with tasks. But she had some free time at least since she woke up early, as she travelled down the long stone path towards the Orchard she thought long and hard about her life. The murder of her father, the death of her mother and the training from the Druids, she had truly been through alot.
But she had a strong heart and like her father she never gave up. With each step she took her heart sank like a damaged boat, she felt nervous but still thanks to the druids Selena was a better and stronger person inside and out. Selena wore her long hooded cloak and wrapped herself deep within its warmth and thickness, it draped across the floor with ease and cocooned Selena within its gentle fabric, pretty soon she turned around another corner and soon arrived.
Feelings began to open out like a chest that had been locked away. Selena sighed sadly and slowly she reached into the depths of her long hooded cloak and pulled out a tiny bunch of flowers that had been at her family home. They were her mothers favourites, she gently knelt down and placed the flowers down near a single tree which was ripe with fresh fruit. Finally Selena couldn' take it anymore and like a dam that had burst tears driped down from her face and gently but quietly cried before the place where her father had met his end.
