[Oh Saaam, I mean, Rufio. I KNEW i should have cleared your history!] Err wow... Whilst I appreciate you put a lot of effort into doing it... this is not accepted, and you've lowered the tone of this site I'm going to make a whole other thread for unaccepted applications now. Just for you. Although I laughed a LOT whilst reading it, and your sample roleplay is actually quite good, so it saddens me to say it. xxxxxxx (If you do properly want it accepted, Rufio will need a surname, more strengths and weaknesses and to fit in with a medieval setting ie. no GCSE's, Harry Potter spells or pensioners!)

Merlin breathed a sigh of relief. It was very difficult being friends with a royal and heir to the realm. He often struggled to maintain the divide between friend and servant, as the boundaries so often blurred. But Arthur was in a good mood today. Merlin sat where he had gestured, watching the Prince sample his food.
He smiled in response to Arthur's question- reheating the food would be a simple task for a magician such as he. "Of course sire," he replied, replacing the platter over the dish. Touching the silver metal with one hand, he reached for the magic within him, muttering alien words under his breath as he directed the flow to the food before him. His eyes shone a brilliant copper. The platter responded in turn by glowing white hot, almost vibrating on the tabletop. As Merlin removed his hand, the glow lessened, then disappeared altogether. This time, when the platter lid was removed a puff of smoke escaped, and it was only after a few seconds when it had dissipated that Merlin could observe the results.
"Just a bit of steam!" he choked, flapping has hands to and fro over the stew and coughing into the crook of his arm.
Well, he had certainly heated the food, that was for sure. Merlin pushed the charred dish back towards Arthur with a raised eyebrow. Wisps of smoke still spiraling from the blackened and smoking blobs.

"Sir, I am so sorry!"
Merlin began to apologise before he was even through the door. "There was a mix up in the kitchens with your dinner, then when I finally had the right dish it was cold, and I asked for it to be reheated on the fires, then tried to do it myself but... well, it's still luke warm..." he trailed off with a feeble smile. Placing the platter carefully before the Prince with one hand, he removed the lid in a sweeping 'tadaa' gesture with the other. His own face fell when he saw the aesthetically displeasing slop inside. The meal, quite simply, resembled vomit.
"It's a rabbit stew." Merlin added, as if to reassure the Prince that the congealed lumps were infact edible. Backing away from the table, Merlin wrinkled his nose and quickly attempted to change the subject, hoping to leave Arthur no time to complain about the food.
"Did you want your armour polishing, your highness?"

Merlin weaved in and out of the crowd, eyes never leaving the silver platter that he was gripping tightly on to. It contained Prince Arthur's dinner, and it was rapidly getting cold. As it was around tea time, the courtyard was packed. Servants criss-crossed in front of him, all carrying out their individual tasks and not looking where they were going. He stopped for a second, watching three separate carts delivering goods for the castle kitchens, each in turn being checked by the guards before the produce was removed. Crates of vegetables... Sacks of grain. His stomach rumbled. Snapping out of his reverie, Merlin felt the top of the platter- it was stone cold. He pulled a face. Why was it the castle offered so many distractions? Finally reaching the opposite site of the courtyard, he eagerly sprung up the first flight of spiral stairs leading to Arthur's chambers, the silver lid slipped and a potato escaped, bouncing and rolling back down the stairs. Merlin rolled his eyes. Today just wasn't his day.

Found this site and thought it might be useful for anyone stuck trying to think of a surname for their character. I realise I'm not a great advocate for surnames, seeing as I don't actually have one (!) but it's a preference of the admin that characters have surnames, and with this big list there's no excuse if you can't think of one! www.gaminggeeks.org/Resources/KateMonk/England-Medieval/Surnames.htmMerlin x

Welcome member! Congratulations on being accepted into the Guild!Training sessions occur right here, in the training board. On your first training session, you may create a thread simply called' [insert character's name here]' Training'. Here, you will post all of your training sessions and I will post my feedback. In the training sessions, you must write a post to a certain minimum wordcount. (Unlike the army, the training sessions are undertaken ALONE and can be carried out anywhere in the realm) For example, in a training post, you might write about practising making fire in the woods, healing a papercut in the library- you have a lot of scope! Just make sure you convey a gradual improvement in your abilities. You may include NPC's in your training. I will reply to your training post either accepting it, or denying it. Reasons for denying it might include: being more than 10% under the wordcount, very poor grammar/spelling, plagiarism of a fellow magicians training ideas etc.) Ranks and Word Counts (Ranks, once achieved may be added to your signature) Title/Task Member of the Guild: Enrollment accepted Novice of the Guild: One post 250 words Apprentice of the Guild: One post 500 words Caster of the Guild: One post 650 words Magician of the Guild: One post 800 words
Mage: - 1000 word post. This session will be undertaken with Merlin. (Mage is the highest possible rank in the Guild. The equivalent to the knights of the army)
All wordcounts are minimum, more would be great! Happy posting!

Here is where you can request to join the Guild. To do so, you simply must post a reply to this thread stating your name, your desire to join the Mages, which band/type you would like to train in and perform a small demonstration of your magic for Merlin (Or give an explanation if you cannot perform on demand!) He will respond telling you whether or not your application to join his Guild is accepted, instructions about what to do next can be found in the training information boards.
Information on types of magic can be found in the 'About Magic' thread. If you do not know which type you wish to be, state so in your application, and Merlin will allocate you a division in his reply.

Guild training works similar to that of the army. Through making a series of posts, increasing in length, your character becomes more skilled and powerful in the art of enchantment, and this is reflected through the titles awarded at each stage. To Train in the Guild:1) Your character must possess some natural degree of magic, however this can be in any form, and must not be powerful. You do not necessarily have to have stated this in your character application to the site. 2)Firstly you must enrol. To enrol in the Guild, follow the instructions and post in the enrolloment office. Once I have replied confirming your place you may begin training. 3) Training: Traning occurs in the training board. On your first training session, you may create a thread simply called' [insert character's name here]' Training'. Here, you will post all of your training sessions and I will post my feedback. 4)In the training sessions, you must write a post to a certain minimum wordcount. 5) I will reply to your training post either accepting it, or denying it. Reasons for denying it include: being more than 10% under the wordcount, very poor grammar/spelling, plagiarism of a fellow magicians training ideas etc.) 6) Ranks and Word Counts (Ranks, once achieved may be added to your signature) Title/Task Member of the Guild: Enrollment accepted Novice of the Guild: One post 250 words Apprentice of the Guild: One post 500 words Caster of the Guild: One post 650 words Magician of the Guild: One post 800 words
Mage: - 1000 word post. This session will be undertaken with Merlin. (Mage is the highest possible rank in the Guild. The equivalent to the knights of the army)
All wordcounts are minimum, more would be great! I hope that makes everything clear, Any questions don't hesistate to PM me (Or the other staff members) Good luck! Merlin

You cannot join BOTH the Guild and the Army O.K, as magic is such a broad term, I have attempted to group the types of magic in a similar way to the army, just for ease of use and so you are able to focus both your character and your training sessions--Once you have decided to join the magicians guild, you must also decide which type of magic you wish to learn. (This will probably be based on the type of gift your character has, for example. Natural ability=creating sparks of fire when angry-- Type of magic=elemental) _______________________________________ There are 4 types of magic with details stated below. Your character may train in ONE of these bands of magic. (I realise they are all very broad, but you are encouraged to focus on specific parts in your training sessions.) ELEMENTAL MAGIC
The basic elements are:
Water Wind Earth Fire Thunder Ice
An elementalist can create and/or manipulate one or more of the elements.
BLACK MAGIC
Examples of spells include: Poison- creating poisons, poisoning objects etc. Blind- removing vision, altering visions eg. creating hallucinations Sleep- causing sleep, altering dreams, prophetic dreams Disguise- Altering one's appearence
WHITE MAGIC
Examples of spells include: Speed- the user appears to move quickly by slowing time Heal- from healing small cuts, to bringing the almost dead back to life. Power Up- Increasing the users power eg. hightening the senses Creater- Bringing life to an inanimate object.
PSYCHIC MAGIC
Telekinesis- Chanelling psychic energy to move objects with the mind. Premonition- seeing vivid flashes of the future/past Thought- Mindreading, sub-conscious influence _______________________________________ You will have to become a fully fledged enchanter/tress, before you can train in another type of magic. It is possible to learn all four magics but this will of course take considerable time. Most characters will stick to just one.It is important to remember that when you begin training in your band of magic, your character will not know ALL of the magics involved in that band, these can be learned and improved on through the sessions. It is perfectly acceptable, in fact encouraged, to concentrate on one (or two) aspects in that band through all of your sessions. For example, an elementalist that only works with fire, or a psychic who focuses on mindreading. USERS OF DARK MAGIC DO NOT NECESSARILY HAVE TO BE BAD, AND VICE VERSA FOR USERS OF WHITE MAGIC. With the exception of the psychic type, magic in Camelot works by speaking words- or "performative utterences" if we're being all clever. Be creative making spells (a good idea to bear in mind the tv show here!) Sorry for all of this writing, I only hope it all makes sense and doesn't confuse you more! Any questions, PM me. Merlin

The Magicains' library is small yet contains an assortment of books and resources on almost every topic concerning magic. These books are enchanted so that they cannot be removed from the room. Parchment and quills are provided for the handy noting down of information and spells.

This is where any member of the guild are able to come to relax and chat with the other members, swapping secrets of their magic or just life stories. Many friends can be made here, but also rivalries as members of the magical community are often very competative.
The room is expensively decorated, with many chairs and tables all comfortable seated around a large fire and portraits of famous magicians hanging from the walls.

As this is a brand new site I thought it might be nice to have an OOC welcome thread where new characters can pop by and say hi ... hi!
