Over six hundred years ago, a celestial event called the Skyfire changed the world forever. In the aftermath of the Skyfire, tens of thousands of people and thousands of dragons died in a land wracked by earthquake, volcanism, fire, and atmospheric pollution. Those that survived lived lives of battle and struggle for minimal resources and for survival. Most of history was lost, and Pern was 'born again,' a new world.
Today, that world is a smaller place. Its social center is the capital, Telgar, a vast city and the seat of the Regent, ruler of all known Pern. To him pay fealty the lords of the noble houses, the many large families known as the blood. So-called 'harpers' serve as politicians and lawyers while an elite society of their own, the scholars, study what remains of the ancient world and leverage belief into power within the modern one.
Loyal also is the world's only weyr, where dragons and their riders live as the regent's military, eternally prepared to battle both the dangers of threadfall and, if necessary, the dangers of men. It has been two hundred years since war last gripped the world, but the current era of peace and prosperity may not be all that it seems. Quietly rumbling in the belly of society, the Resistance grows in number, while the secret society called the Faith builds on generations of acquired power that reaches into the highest ranks of society.
After Skyfire is a middle-ages roleplay incorporating some of the best material from the Dragonriders of Pern series, designed for the creation of epic tales of drama and conflict. Medieval social, political, and philosophical questions challenge a wide variety of character types in a fresh and intriguing setting that offers many opportunities for exploration and discovery. Detailed knowledge of the Pern universe is not required to play.
After Skyfire does not conform to a 'rating,' but is intended for persons with a mature approach to roleplay and cooperative storytelling.
